Here's Why Taylor Swift Is Credited as a Songwriter on Olivia Rodrigo's Album 'Sour'

If you’re a fan of Olivia Rodrigo, then you definitely know how she’s a massive Taylor Swift superfan and has been influenced by her songwriting.

Well, fans who got an early listen to Olivia‘s debut album Sour were the first to find out that Taylor actually has a songwriting credit on the album!

While some fans initially thought that Olivia and Taylor collaborated for the album, that’s not actually the case. Also, it’s important to point out that Taylor‘s music was not sampled for the album either.

Olivia‘s new song “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back” interpolates Taylor‘s song “New Year’s Day” from the album Reputation. She and co-writer Jack Antonoff are both credited because of the interpolation of the song.

Fans also noticed that the title includes the numbers 1 and 3, which combine to make 13, Taylor‘s lucky number.

Another Easter egg that fans noticed is that the album’s release date, 5/21/2021, adds up to 13 if you find the sum of each number.

Just last week, Olivia revealed what Taylor wrote to her in a handwritten letter.
