HBO Shares First Photo of Rose Leslie & Theo James in 'The Time Traveler's Wife' Series

HBO has unveiled the first look at the upcoming TV series adaptation of The Time Traveler’s Wife!

Rose Leslie and Theo James will be starring in the new drama series, based on the best-selling novel by Audrey Niffenegger. Production on the six-episode first season just began in New York. Click into the photo gallery for the first look photo.

HBO describes the series as “an intricate and magical love story that tells the story of Clare (Leslie) and Henry (James), and a marriage with a problem … time travel.”

The book was previously made into a movie starring Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana. The new series will be written and executive produced by Steven Moffat, best known for Sherlock and Doctor Who.”

Steven said in a statement, “This is a story of loss but it’s not a tragedy. It’s about a time traveler but it’s not science fiction. Despite Clare and Henry’s time scrambled relationship, this is the tale of a grand, ordinary love – but not necessarily in that order. This is a dream project for me. I have always loved Audrey Niffenegger’s extraordinary, moving novel and it has inspired me many times, so to be adapting it for television is the thrill of a lifetime. Working with [director] David Nutter is a joy and an honour already, and with Rose Leslie and Theo James as Clare and Henry, and Natasha Lopez and Desmin Borges as Charisse and Gomez, this is going to be the love story we need right now.”

“Clare Abshire is fiery, clever and unstoppable – and for most of her life she’s had an amazing secret. Since she was six years old, Clare has had an imaginary friend: a kind and funny man, sometimes old, sometimes young, who appears in the woods behind her house and tells her tales of the future. Visits from the mysterious Henry are the bright spots in the tedium of her childhood. As the years pass, and she grows into a beautiful young woman, she starts to realize her friend is not imaginary – he’s a time traveler, visiting from the future. And he’s not just from any old future – he’s from her future. Clare has a literal date with destiny. One day she’s going to meet a young man called Henry DeTamble – whom she’ll know very well but who won’t recognize her at all – and she will become the time traveler’s wife.”

“Henry DeTamble has a problem. Since he was eight years old he’s been time traveler. It’s not a superpower, it’s a condition – he can’t help it.
