One of creator Dick Wolf‘s collaborators, Rick Eid, is set to be showrunner on the show’s 21st season.

“There are very few things in life that are literally dreams come true. This is mine,” the show’s creator said in a statement.

It is not yet clear whether the show will premiere within the 2021-2022 season, or for 2022-2023.

Former cast members are expected to return for season 21, although specific casting details are not yet clear either.

The show originally premiered in September of 1990 and ended in May of 2010 across 20 seasons, and has since launched popular spinoffs like Criminal Intent, Trial by Jury, L.A., True Crime, Organized Crime and SVU.

Law & Order is quite simply one of the most iconic shows in television history, and the idea of continuing its legacy and partnering with Dick on an all-new season is nothing short of exhilarating. This is great news for NBC as well as TV fans everywhere,” said NBCUniversal’s Susan Rovner.
