Grimes Seemingly References Breakup with Elon Musk in Her New Song 'Player of Games'

It seems like Grimes may be making some pointed comments with her latest song.

On Friday (December 3), the 33-year-old musician dropped her new single, “Player of Games,” which appears to reveal some details about her split from Elon Musk two months ago.

“I’m in love with the greatest gamer / But he’ll always love the game more than he loves me,” one lyric reads.

Later, Grimes seems to references Elon‘s interest in traveling to space.

The first verse includes a line about Europa, a moon of Jupiter: “Baby, would you still love me out on Europa or will you forget? / Baby, how can I compare to the adventure out there?”

“Sail away to the cold expanse of space / Even love couldn’t keep you in your place,” she sings later. “But can’t you love me like that?”

The pair announced that they had broken up back in September after three years of dating. They welcomed their first child together, X Æ A-XII, back in May 2020.

“We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently and are on great terms,” he said at the time. “It’s mostly that my work at SpaceX and Tesla requires me to be primarily in Texas or traveling overseas and her work is primarily in LA. She’s staying with me now and Baby X is in the adjacent room.”

Grimes recently made headlines for a series of viral photos of her reading The Communist Manifesto and she responded to all the attention in a post on social media.
