Martin Sheen Admits He Regrets Changing His Name For His Acting Career

Martin Sheen

While talking to Closer Weekly, Martin admits that he was convinced to adopt a stage name with encouragement from others.

“Sometimes you get persuaded when you don’t have enough insight or even enough courage to stand up for what you believe in, and you pay for it later. But, of course, I’m only speaking for myself,” he said.

Martin added that he’s never actually legally changed his name on official documents at all.

“It’s still Ramon Estévez on my birth certificate. It’s on my marriage license, my passport, driver’s license.”

Martin also talked about his son, Emilio Estevez, and how he’s grateful that Emilio didn’t change his name to match his – like Charlie Sheen did.

“The only influence I had on Emilio was to keep his name,” he stressed. “When he started out, his agent was advising him to change his name to Sheen and he wouldn’t do it. And I thank God he didn’t.”

In addition to Emilio and Charlie, Martin is also dad to Ramon and daughter Renee with wife, Janet.
