Mo'Nique Announces New Comedy Special at Netflix, One Month After Settling Lawsuit with Streamer

Mo’Nique is planning a new comedy special for Netflix.

The 54-year-old Oscar-winning actress confirmed the news in a video posted to the streamer’s Twitter account on Tuesday (July 19), telling fans, “I’m excited to say that I’ll be shooting my first Netflix special, in addition to reuniting with my friend, director Lee Daniels on the Netflix film The Deliverance.”

“You won’t want to miss either of them, so stay tuned,” she added. “Thank you all and I love y’all to life!”

Variety writes that the special will begin filming later this year in Atlanta, with more details to follow.

The news comes a month after Mo’Nique settled her race and gender discrimination lawsuit with the streamer. In a November 2019 filing, she claimed that Netflix broke the law with their initial offer for her comedy special in 2018, alleging she was offered only $500,000 while Amy Schumer was offered $11 million and Dave Chappelle was offered $20 million.

Mo’Nique‘s reconciliation with Lee Daniels is also a relatively new development, with the pair publicly making amends a few months ago after being embroiled in a feud for years.
