Rishi Sunak To Become UK's New Prime Minister After Liz Truss' Resignation

Rishi Sunak has won the job of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, just days after the country’s shortest-serving leader of all-time, Liz Truss, resigned.

The 42-year-old politician is now the third person to take on the role of Prime Minister in the last seven weeks and the fifth person to have the job since 2016. Boris Johnson held the office before Liz Truss.

He is also the first British Asian prime minister. He previously acted as a Finance Minister.

News broke last week that Truss was quitting the role of Prime Minister after only about 45 days in office. Apart from being the third-ever female British Prime Minister, Truss made headlines early on in her 45-day reign as having the last public appearance with Queen Elizabeth. The photos that emerged from their meeting are what first sparked concern for the monarch’s health before her death 2 days later.
