Derek Hough & Hayley Erbert Were Involved In Scary Car Accident This Month - Here's What Happened

Derek Hough and Hayley Erbert were involved in a scary car accident earlier this month, and they’re opening up about it for the first time.

The 37-year-old Dancing with the Stars judge and his fiancee, who was also a dancer on the show, wanted fans to know that they were banged up but alright after being involved in an accident on December 12.

They shared some details on social media, including what Derek called “the scariest part.”

Hayley shared a video taken the night of the crash on Instagram.

The video featured clips of their car after the crash and showed that she sustained a head injury that required stiches. They also documented the aftermath when they got home from the emergency room.

“What do you do after you get in a car accident? You go to the emergency room, get stitches,” Derek said.

“There’s nowhere to eat, so we go to a grocery store and get tons of snacks,” Hayley added.

She explained what happened in the caption.

“On December 12, Derek and I got into a pretty scary car accident in the mountains. Our accident involved a steep hill, icy roads, a tree, and worst of all, the fear that we would slide off the mountain. Given the circumstances, we have so much to be grateful for,” she said, adding that they were the only people involved in the crash.

“I only walked away a little banged up, a swollen face, and four stitches above my eyebrow. Now, more than ever, we realize how fragile life is and how important it is to love those around you. We hope that everyone has a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season,” she added.

Hayley also thanked the paramedics who took care of them.

Derek added his thoughts in the comments section.

“The scariest part was that Hayley doesn’t remember anything. She was dazed afterwards, being cheerful saying we should keep going to dinner as blood ran down her face. That really scared me. She came to 20 minutes later when the firemen arrived,” he wrote.

We’re so glad that Derek and Hayley are alright!

The couple got engaged back in June after seven years of dating. They were out on a double date with some other Dancing with the Stars castmates just a few days before the tragic accident.
