Andie MacDowell Opens Up About Playing a Younger Version of Herself For Hallmark's 'The Way Home'

Like many other actors right now, Andie MacDowell had to go back to the past to portray a character for Hallmark‘s The Way Home.

The series, which centers on three generations of women within the Landry family, who reunite, following years apart after a tragedy tore them apart, will feature Andie with her brunette hair once again.

Speaking with Parade, Andie opened up about donning a wig for the flashback scenes in the series, and how she reacted to seeing herself like that once again.

“It was scary. I wasn’t sure I could pull it off,” Andie, who plays Del Landry, admits. “I was also thinking about how my neck looked, those kinds of things. The wig helps. And the director of photography used a softer lens to add a certain ambience.”

She added that her scenes as the younger Del was in “a time before my character experienced so much pain, so I made sure to keep my voice lighter and happier. I changed my posture, too.”

Andie also spoke about how she approached playing the older, and current, version of Del in the show.

“I chose to be as natural as possible. I play her a lot rougher,” she shared. “She’s gone through a lot and being alone, she’s had to get tough. There is still a gruffness to her.”

Andie added, “I could only imagine what it’s like to have a granddaughter that you haven’t been able to spend time with. But then the relationship opens, and the story becomes very rewarding.”

The Way Home, also starring Chyler Leigh and Sadie Laflamme-Snow, will debut at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Hallmark Channel tonight, January 15!
