Janet Jackson's Nephew TJ Clears the Air After Seemingly Dissing Her 'Overly Sexualized' Performances
Janet Jackson‘s nephew TJ Jackson set the story straight after he appeared to diss his aunt’s performances for being “overly sexualized.”
In a series of since-deleted tweets, TJ opened up about a video of Janet performing her song “Would You Mind” on tour.
“I never liked when she did this in concerts,” he wrote, adding that he preferred “‘That’s the Way Love Goes’ Janet” to the more overtly sexual image she was portraying in the performance, according to Vibe.
After generating headlines that he was dissing her, TJ took to social media again to clear the air.

“There will never be another Janet Jackson,” he wrote. “She is irreplaceable. She is to me the greatest female artist, period. No other female artist influenced me more. Not even close.”
He continued, writing “I would never diminish my aunt or any family member. I respect them, look up to them and love them too much. To you they are legends and global icons. To me they are that and more. They are my family.”
Earlier in the thread, TJ explained that he decided to delete his earlier tweets and that his message was inspired by “my belief that we should do a better job protecting our girls.”
“Yes I believe women can be sexy and sensual but I do feel there is a line that can be crossed when the message becomes something different and it affects our youth in a different way than you or me can understand,” he added.
Janet made headlines earlier this year amid rumors that she passed on a chance to receive a prestigious award at the Grammys.

As a father I will always protect girls and speak my mind when it comes to kids. They are impressionable and often defenseless that I feel we as adults (and artists) have a responsibility to remind them of their worth and potential. 5/7
