Get to Know 'Margaret' Actress Abby Ryder Fortson with These 10 Fun Facts! (Exclusive)
The new movie Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret is hitting theaters this weekend and we caught up with rising star Abby Ryder Fortson to learn more about her!
Abby plays the title role in the big-screen adaptation of the classic Judy Blume novel.
11-year-old Margaret is uprooted from her life in New York City for the suburbs of New Jersey, going through the messy and tumultuous throes of puberty with new friends in a new school. She relies on her mother, Barbara (Rachel McAdams), who is also struggling to adjust to life outside the big city, and her adoring grandmother, Sylvia (Kathy Bates), who isn’t happy they moved away and likes to remind them every chance she gets.
Abby was previously seen as Cassie Lang in the first two Ant-Man movies and as Sophie Pierson in the HBO series Togetherness.

- I’m a huge reader and love reading all kinds of books from sci-fi to contemporary to critical thought essays to poetry to vintage gothic literature. I also love annotating all of my books.
- I’ve been surfing pretty much since I could walk and I absolutely love the water, my parents even used to call me a mermaid because I loved the ocean so much. My dad taught me everything to do with surfing and we both share the dream of surfing at Kelly Slater’s surf ranch.
- I love writing and I’ve been jotting down stories since third grade when I wrote an 80 page book about dragons. Nowadays though, I’ve left the dragons behind and I’m working on some scripts now!
- I actually name my plants, I have about 15 around my room, and I refer to them as my children. I don’t pick favorites but I do really love Steve, my little golden pothos plant.
- I’ve been playing guitar and piano for years and love teaching myself riffs from vintage metal songs on my electric Fender Stratocaster.

- I taught myself how to knit and I might have made my plants a couple of scarfs!
- My dad and I are obsessed with the Great British Bake Off, we both love baking and I absolutely love making amazing vegan cakes and other sweet treats inspired by Kim Joy and many of the others from the GGBO. My mom begs me for my vegan lemon cookies!!
- I have a dog named Thomas who I adopted through Maeday Rescue and I absolutely love him to pieces.
- I’m a huge fan of 70s and 80s music, I love bands like Mott the Hoople, Metallica, Black Sabbath, and I’ll always love some good old Bowie. I’ve been building my vinyl record collection for a few years and I’ve got most of my favorite albums now!
