“He has a collapsed lung,” Joe Rojas, the president of the union that represents staffers at U.S. Penitentiary Coleman, told the outlet. “He is lucky to be alive and the only reason he is alive, in my opinion, is because of the staff members who were there.”

He went on to say that Larry, 59, had been stabbed “twice in the neck, six times in the chest, and twice in the back.” He was in stable condition by Monday morning.

A report from the Associated Press suggests that Larry was attacked by a fellow inmate during an altercation. Joe says the incident came as a surprise since Larry “kept to himself” in prison and rarely had issues with other inmates during his time there. He added that officials still don’t have a concrete motive for the attack.

Larry was sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison in 2018 after he was convicted of sexually assaulting dozens of gymnasts, including Olympic medal winners. He also pleaded guilty to possessing child sexual abuse material in a separate case.
