During the 2017 negotiations with Warner Bros. for a potential third film, Kim apparently had some demands that the studio did not want to meet. According to reports, Kim wanted the studio to greenlight an unrelated project she wanted to do.

“They didn’t feel comfortable meeting where she wanted to meet, and so we didn’t do the movie because we didn’t want to do it without Kim. Were we [she and costars Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon] disappointed? Sure. But it happens,” SJP said in a 2022 interview.
