Sofia Coppola Reacts to Daughter Romy's Viral TikTok That Brought Up Her Parenting

Sofia Coppola is finally breaking her silence on that video her teenage daughter Romy Croquet made on TikTok.

If you aren’t aware, the 16-year-old went viral in March 2023 for creating a now-deleted TikTok video that mentioned her parents quite a bit.

Romy began the video with, “Make a vodka sauce pasta with me because I’m grounded. I tried to charter a helicopter from New York to Maryland on my dad’s credit card because I wanted to have dinner with my camp friend.”

While trying to make the pasta, Romy said that she doesn’t know the difference between garlic and onions and that she had to Google images of onions. “I’m embarrassed,” she said.

She continued, “Also, I thought I would do this since I’m already grounded because my parents biggest rule is like, I’m not allowed to have any public social media accounts. Here’s why,” she said while picking up a Grammy Award.

“They don’t want me to be a nepotism kid, but TikTok is not gonna make me famous, so it doesn’t really matter,” Romy said.

Romy then introduced her babysitter’s boyfriend and said, “my parents are never home so these are my replacement parents.”

For those who don’t know, Romy‘s father is Thomas Mars, who is the lead singer of the indie pop band Phoenix.

In an interview with THR published on Wednesday (August 23), Sofia was asked about the video.

She shared, “We were raised to be so private, and social media is so the opposite of how I grew up. So it was the best way for her to be rebellious.”

About the video itself, Sofia said, “I got lots of compliments on her filmmaking. And comedy. She’s funny. But people discussing my parenting publicly is not what I would’ve hoped for.”
