Luc Besson Says He Wants to Do Another Big Budget Sci-Fi Film Like 'Fifth Element'

Luc Besson is getting candid about his career.

During a recent interview with THR, the 64-year-old director discussed his new film Dogman, as well as the sort of films he’d like to be making in the future.

Dogman has been billed as Luc‘s comeback movie as it marks his first outing since he was cleared of rape allegations in 2022. When asked if he sees the movie that way, Luc replied: “You don’t think like this. It’s really hard when you get to 60, because you never know your juice is over. A sport guys knows — he has a Chronometer. But with an artist, you never know. I never want to do one film too much and have people say ‘oh, he was great before.’ So you try to figure out if you still have things to say, and, for now, I’m ok. So maybe I have one or two more.”

“My first movie I made when I was 19 and now I’m 63, so it’s taken me 50 years to get the focus, and I think I can express myself a little better and maybe I know what I want to say a little better, so it’s just a normal evolution. But I try to be more interesting. But to me it’s not dark at all, it’s very colorful,” he said of the new movie, which stars Caleb Landry Jones as a man who was abused by his violent father and adopts dogs as a source of joy and friendship.

As for what kinds of films he’d like to make in the future, Luc said he was interested in directing another big-budget sci-fi film.

“I would love to do another movie in space,” he said. “Give me $200 million and I’m there.”

One of Luc‘s former collaborators recently spoke out about the accusations against him. Find out what they said here.
