The statement also added, “We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon,” and called him a “beloved husband and father….We ask that you respect our privacy at this painful time and thank you for your messages of support and love.”

Michael took over the role of Dumbledore from Richard Harris, who passed away in October of 2002 after filming the first two films.

In addition to the Harry Potter films, Michael was a well-known and loved British stage veteran and a protégé of Laurence Olivier.

Our thoughts are with Michael Gambon‘s friends, family, and loved ones during this time. RIP.

We’ve tragically lost 12 Harry Potter stars since filming ended.
