Heather Morris Dishes on 'The Bystanders' Podcast, Relationships With 'Glee' Costars, & 'The Eras Tour' vs. 'The Renaissance Tour' (Exclusive)

On ‘The Bystanders’…

Heather wore quite a few hats for The Bystanders. Between writing, directing, producing, and acting, she finds producing to be the biggest challenge. When she reached out to fellow industry creatives for research, they all said, “The podcast world is the wild Wild West, so you can really do anything.” She noted, “It was both a blessing and a curse.”

The Glee star also opened up about creating a mesmerizing, 3-D soundscape for the podcast. “I think what was fascinating to me about scripted podcasts was how placement of characters in relation to the microphone can really shape the scene and move the listener to feel immersed,” she said. The podcast team got to work on the mix at a Dolby Atmos studio in Nashville, which Heather called “#goals.”

When asked about the general popularity of murder mysteries right now (The Bystanders, The White Lotus, Only Murders in the Building, etc.), Heather reflected, “I feel so blessed that our podcast is sitting cozy among those other iconic productions.”

She added, “I guess everyone else like myself is obsessed with Law & Order but always wished Dick Wolf would add a little twisted, dark humor to the mundane mystery recipe, so we’re just all succumbing to that very whim.”
