The 2016 CMA Awards

If you’ll recall, Beyoncé faced scrutiny and criticism when performing at the 2016 CMA Awards, singing a new version of her Lemonade song “Daddy Lessons” with The Chicks.

There was backlash from some country music fans who said that Beyoncé did not have a place at the show. The CMAs also seemingly erased her from the website and social media postings following the performance in 2016.

At the time, TMZ reported that “the honchos folded to fans who posted racist and other harsh comments. We’re told the honchos were especially concerned about the reaction to Beyonce‘s support and the support of the Dixie Chicks for the Black Lives Matter movement …We’re told the CMA people ‘just want this to go away’ and feel it was probably a mistake to invite the 4 women in the first place.”

The CMAs then started repopulating its social media with images of the performance after the story was published.
