Blu-ray and Digital HD Releases

Rogue One
Star Wars universe gets a little bit larger today with the release of Rogue One out on blu-ray and digital today.

Arguably considered a fan-service film, this installment takes place right before the original Star Wars: A New Hope. The film plugs, quite beautifully, the glaring holes in the original Star Wars film as it follows a group of rebels as they attempt to steal the plans to the Empire’s most powerful weapon, the Death Star.

From the beginning, we see that this film is different from the other Star Wars films as we see an opening of the film without the famous yellow text crawl. The rest of the movie is much darker and grittier, which was appropriate for the story and its necessary ending.

Nods to previous films are sprinkled throughout, including, a very notable Darth Vader voiced by none other than the original voice, James Earl Jones.

As with all Disney related films, the film is beautifully presented in 1080p along with the impeccable DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 lossless soundtrack.

As for featurettes, notable pieces were missing such as deleted scenes and audio commentary. We can only guess that these will be offered in a later release. However, the film does include various featurettes including how the film was first pitched, various profiles of the characters of the film, and how the movie was designed and created.

Overall, this is a great film. With a great cast, great directing, this is a refreshing new addition to the Star Wars saga.
