House of Representatives Votes to Impeach President Donald Trump

A majority of the House of Representatives have voted to impeach President Donald Trump.

Trump faced two articles of impeachment – abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, and the House pass the vote on both accounts to impeach him. For Article I, there were 230 votes and 229 votes for Article II. 216 “yeas” are needed for the vote to pass.

Trump is accused of abusing his power and pressuring Ukraine to interfere in the 2020 election, and also of obstruction of the impeachment inquiry process.

President Trump will now be tried in the Senate with all 100 Senators acting as jurors.

Trump is now the third president in history to be impeached – behind Andrew Johnson in 1868 and Bill Clinton in 1998.
