Here's How 'Sanditon' Wrote Off Theo James' Sidney Parker in Season Two

Within mere moments of the Sanditon season two premiere, fans found out just what happened to Theo James‘s Sidney Parker.

If you’re a fan of the show, you recall how Sidney broke things off with Charlotte at the end of season one in order to marry his former flame, Eliza Campion, whose family had the money to save Sanditon, as it was on the verge of financial collapse.

As the season opened, the series didn’t beat around the bush and revealed just what happened to Sidney after he left the seaside town.

Unfortunately, it was revealed that Sidney died!

Sidney ultimately passed away from yellow fever during a trip to Antigua, and the season opened up with his funeral.

Charlotte, played by Rose Williams, was told the devastating news by Sidney’s sister-in-law Mary brought her the news of his death.

Speaking to press earlier this year about Sidney’s fate, head writer Justin Young explained that his demise would be present through the season.

“It gave us this enormous emotional event at the beginning of the [season] that sets up all the stories,” he shared. “Really, the season becomes about that in a way — how everyone moves on from Sidney.”

He added that they “couldn’t recast because that would have destroyed the integrity of the world. It would have been implausible. We thought we needed to make clear to the audience right from the beginning that he’s not coming back, although [Charlotte] waits for him to come back, and we needed to let the audience grieve along with Charlotte.”

Theo shocked fans last year when he revealed he wouldn’t be returning to the Jane Austen world.
