Shay Mooney Talks His Body Transformation & Not Recognizing Himself After Losing More Than 50 Pounds - 'I've Never Felt More Alive'

Shay Mooney of country band Dan + Shay opened up about his body transformation after losing more than 50 pounds.

The 30-year-old “Speechless” musician announced that he lost 50 pounds in five months back in October. More recently, he told TODAY that he’s lost even more weight and is down about 54 pounds.

He shed some light on how he is feeling now in a post on social media.

Shay shared a video montage of photos on Instagram and reflected on the journey.

“It’s weird not recognizing yourself. I got to a place mentally and physically that I will never go again,” he wrote in the accompanying caption. “It matters what we eat. It matters who you spend your time with. It matters what you choose to spend your time on.”

“I’m so thankful for the people in my life that helped me make a change. No one forced me into this. I wanted to change my life for me. I’ve never felt more alive,” he added.

During an appearance on TODAY, Shay explained what inspired the decision: “I had this moment where I was just not feeling healthy. It wasn’t necessarily for my appearance, but it was to feel healthy.”
