Aaron Sorkin Condemns Media Releasing Sony Hack Details

Aaron Sorkin has written an op-ed piece for The New York Times to give his opinion on why journalists shouldn’t be helping the Sony hackers reveal details found in all the stolen emails.

The 53-year-old writer/producer has been the subject of some of the private emails that were released.

“The widely published documents that were stolen include an email to Ms. Pascal in which I advocated going to Tom Cruise for the lead role (I did), a second email from one executive to another speculating that I’m broke (I’m fine) and a third that suggested that I might be romantically involved with a woman whose book I’m using as source material for a new script (I wish),” Aaron writes.

“Every news outlet that did the bidding of the Guardians of Peace is morally treasonous and spectacularly dishonorable,” Aaron adds at the end of his piece. “I know there’s juicy stuff in the emails and I know some of us have been insulted and I know there’s more to come. No one’s private life can totally withstand public scrutiny. But this is much bigger than hurt feelings and banged-up egos.”

“If you close your eyes you can imagine the hackers sitting in a room, combing through the documents to find the ones that will draw the most blood. And in a room next door are American journalists doing the same thing. As demented and criminal as it is, at least the hackers are doing it for a cause. The press is doing it for a nickel,” Aaron concluded the article.

Olivia Munn Defends Aaron Sorkin's Campus Rape Plotline on 'The Newsroom'

Olivia Munn is defending The Newsroom writer Aaron Sorkin for his portrayal of a controversial storyline on the show involving a campus rape accusation.

The 34-year-old actress plays Sloan Sabbith on the show, who is in a relationship with producer Don Keefer (Thomas Sadoski). Don is assigned to speak with an alleged campus rape victim, who set up a website where victims can tell their story publicly and anonymously. Don does not agree with the use of the site, saying that it could lead to victimizing innocent males.

“It should have been more poignant and more interesting, and not about her,” Olivia told EW about writer Alena Smith, who publicly criticized the episode. “The reality is that Sorkin writes things so that they can be talked about, and so we show both sides of it. I think it was important to show what it’s like for women to be a rape victim, want to speak out, and then have somebody come in and say, ‘Hey don’t do that. That’s going to be bad for you.”

Sorkin wasn’t saying ‘Don’t do that,’” Olivia said. “He was saying ‘This is what happens.’”

Aaron Sorkin Responds to 'Newsroom' Writer's Reaction to Rape Scene

Aaron Sorkin is speaking out after a scene in the penultimate episode of his series The Newsroom sparked controversy for the way it handled a campus rape accusation.

After viewers voiced their anger at the scene, one of the show’s staff writers, Alena Smith, let her followers know that she disagreed with how the scene was handled and got kicked out of the writers room by Sorkin for letting her feelings be known.

Aaron is now responding to Alena‘s claims in an email to Mediate.

“I was surprised to be told this morning that Alena had tweeted out her unhappiness with the story. But I was even more surprised that she had so casually violated the most important rule of working in a writers room which is confidentiality,” Aaron says in the note.
