Walmart Is Ending This Racist Policy In Some Of Their Stores

Walmart will be ending its practice of locking up beauty products for Black people behind glass cases.

The retail giant announced the news this week, amid the uproar of racial inequality.

Criticism for Walmart‘s practice was heightened and most have said that the practice of putting those products behind cases is a form of racial targeting.

Previously, Walmart had stated that certain products were locked up because they were more likely to be stolen.

“As a retailer serving millions of customers every day from diverse backgrounds, Walmart does not tolerate discrimination of any kind,” Lorenzo Lopez, a Walmart spokesman, shared with press in an email. “We’re sensitive to the issue and understand the concerns raised by our customers and members of the community and have made the decision to discontinue placing multicultural hair care and beauty products — a practice in place in about a dozen of our 4,700 stores nationwide — in locked cases.”

The end of the practice follows a lawsuit in which a woman sued Walmart because products were locked behind the case, and pointed out the discrimination practice.

Bubba Wallace Addresses NASCAR Banning Confederate Flag, Calls It 'Huge, Pivotal Moment for the Sport'

Bubba Wallace is celebrating his NASCAR victory.

The 26-year-old driver – who is the only black driver at NASCAR’s highest level – reacted to news on Wednesday (June 10) that NASCAR had officially banned use of the Confederate flag at all events.

“Bravo. Props to NASCAR and everybody involved,” Bubba shared with Fox Sports. “This has been a stressful couple weeks. This is no doubt the biggest race of my career tonight. And it couldn’t be at a more perfect place, where I got my first win in the Truck Series in 2013. Followed it up with that second win in 2014. So I’m excited about tonight. There’s a lot of emotions on the race track and off the race track that are riding with us, but tonight is something special. Today’s been special. Again, hats off to NASCAR.”

Bubba called for the ban of the flag earlier this week, saying it’s a symbol of slavery and injustice.

“[NASCAR president Steve] Phelps and I have been in contact a lot just trying to figure out what steps are next,” Bubba continued. “And that was a huge, pivotal moment for the sport. Lot of backlash, but it creates doors and allows the community to come together as one, and that’s what the real mission is here. So I’m excited about that.”

Bubba will be racing on Wednesday night at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia in a car featuring the words, “Black Lives Matter.”

Twitter Establishes Juneteenth as Official Company Holiday

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey announced that from today onward, the company will recognize Juneteenth as a company-wide holiday.

“Both Twitter and Square are making #Juneteenth (June 19th) a company holiday in the US, forevermore. A day for celebration, education, and connection,” Jack, who also runs Square, shared in an announcement thread on the social platform.

He went on, “Countries and regions around the world have their own days to celebrate emancipation, and we will do the work to make those dates company holidays everywhere we are present.”

If you are unfamiliar, Juneteenth is celebrated annually on June 19 and commemorates the official end of slavery in the United States, when the last people in Galveston, Texas were informed on June 19, 1865 — two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation — that the Civil War was over and that enslaved people were now free.

Jack also shared a link for other companies who observe the holiday to be added to a list. See that here!

If you missed it, Jack also donated a large sum to Colin Kaepernick‘s Legal Defense Fund. See how much here…
