Oscars' Best Foreign Language Film Nominees Release Joint Statement About the Political Climate

The six directors nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2017 Academy Awards have released a joint statement to express their “unanimous and emphatic disapproval of the climate of fanaticism and nationalism we see today in the U.S. and in so many other countries.”

The nominees in the category are Denmark’s Martin Zandvliet for Land of Mine, Sweden’s Hannes Holm for A Man Called Ove, Iran’s Asghar Farhadi for The Salesman, Germany’s Maren Ade for Toni Erdmann, and Australia’s Martin Butler and Bentley Dean for Tanna.

You might remember the recent story of Asghar being unable to attend the Oscars this year after President Trump enacted a travel ban from certain predominantly Muslim countries, including Iran.
