America’s Got Talent alum Jackie Evancho is opening up about her battle with anorexia and revealed her journey to get help.
The 22-year-old singer, who placed second on AGT back in 2010, says she suffered from an eating disorder for 7 years, and knew she needed to get help after a January 2021 car accident.
Jackie Evancho has dropped her new, Broadway-inspired album The Debut!
The singer and America’s Got Talent finalist released the 10-track album on Friday (April 12).
Jackie just turned 19 years old, making this her first album released as an adult.
“This is the first album where I was actually able to speak my mind, and people listened,” she told New York Daily News. “You’ll be able to see a bit of my ideas as an artist, rather than just a singer.”
“I spoke my mind a lot (in the past),” she added. “But no one really wants to take a 10-year-old seriously.”
Rather than the classical crossover music she has become known for, The Debut consists of Broadway numbers that Jackie put her own spin on.
“I really want to know what else my voice can do,” she explained. “I knew I could sing when I was 10, but I didn’t know what else my voice could do. It developed into different things and I found out that I have a pop voice now. Really, I don’t want to limit myself to one specific genre.”
Listen to The Debut below! You can also download it on iTunes.
Jackie Evancho‘s new album The Debut, featuring covers of some of the best songs from Broadway musicals, is being released this week and JustJared.com is exclusively premiering the music video for her cover from Hamilton!
The 19-year-old singer and former America’s Got Talent contestant sang a cover of the Eliza song “Burn,” which chronicles the character’s reaction to discovering her husband’s affair.
“I chose ‘Burn’ for the album because I wanted to include a song from Hamilton - it is such an important ground breaking musical of our time,” Jackie told us about choosing the song. “The album would not be complete without it. When I first heard it I absolutely adored the passion of Eliza’s feelings towards her husband’s betrayal and it just spoke to me in a profound way.”
“My inspiration for the video of ‘Burn’ was to put a modern-day twist on the story of Hamilton and his wife and I really want to people that are my age and maybe younger, or even older, to be able relate to it in a way that’s more modern,” she added.
Make sure to pre-order Jackie‘s new album now on iTunes. It will be available on April 12!
By the way, TODAY (April 9) is Jackie‘s 19th birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Jackie Evancho is opening up about her struggle with an eating disorder.
The 18-year-old America’s Got Talent superstar discussed her battle in an interview with Access.
During the interview, she spoke about having body dysmorphia and having an eating disorder while growing up in the public eye. She explained that she would “go days without eating” because she couldn’t look in the mirror without thinking she was “disgusting.”
“What got my parents to notice was me skipping dinners, as well as everything else,” she said.
