Katharine McPhee got very honest about her music career in a recent interview while promoting her new holiday album.

The 38-year-old entertainer and her husband David Foster recently released their holiday album Christmas Songs, which they say is just part one of a full album that will be finished in 2023.

This marks Katharine‘s first album in years and it brought her out of recording “retirement.”

“I really haven’t desired to do much recording. Literally last year, I think I was on a red carpet and I said, ‘Oh, I’m a retired recording artist; I’m not recording anymore.’ Because I really didn’t want to, and I haven’t wanted to. So, this was sort of like a spur-of-the-moment decision,” Kat told Yahoo Music.

In the interview, Katharine also talked about being disappointed when her recording career didn’t take off right after American Idol and how she’s never had a “major hit.”

If you’re up early on Christmas morning, make sure to tune in to ABC for a fun holiday special!

Disney Parks Magical Christmas Parade will air on Sunday (December 25) at 10am ET and 7am PT to bring some holiday cheer to everyone around the country.

Derek Hough and Julianne Hough are once again hosting the special and they will be joining by co-hosts Sherry Cola and Marcus Scribner from the Freeform shows Good Trouble and grown-ish, respectively.

Katharine McPhee and David Foster are touring around the country right now to promote their holiday album and they surprised fans with some very special guests at their shows this past weekend!

The married couple performed a mix of music from David‘s Grammy-winning song catalog and their new album Christmas Songs, which is streaming everywhere right now.

Kat and Dave had four shows across the New York tri-state area and they took advantage of being so close to Broadway. Special guests at the shows included beloved musical theatre stars like Jessica Vosk.

Katharine McPhee and David Foster are continuing to spread holiday cheer!

The married couple celebrated the release of their new album Christmas Songs by performing at the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting on Wednesday (November 30) in New York City.

Kat performed “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” and a mash-up of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “Jingle Bells” while David accompanied her on piano.

It’s going to be a busy week for Kat and Dave as they have four shows though the end of the weekend – New York on Thursday, New Jersey on Friday, Pennsylvania on Saturday, and Rhode Island on Sunday. Get tickets here! They’ll also be doing a CD signing in New York on Tuesday, December 6 at Barnes & Noble’s Warren Street location.

Katharine McPhee and her husband David Foster are in the holiday spirit!

The married couple performed at the CBS Home for the Holidays taping on Sunday night (November 20) at The Grove in Los Angeles.

Kat looked gorgeous in a gown designed by Kuwaiti designer Bazza Alzouman.

A few nights earlier, Kat and David performed at the tree lighting ceremony in Beverly Hills and she also launched her new jewelry line KMF Jewelry on Rodeo Drive.

The CBS special will air on December 23 and will also feature performances from Gloria Estefan, Little Big Town, and Andy Grammer. The event will celebrate families whose lives have been changed by adoption.

FYI: Katharine is wearing an off-white, strapless gown with dramatic puff sleeves from Bazza Alzouman.

Katharine McPhee wears her namesake jewelry at the KMF Jewelry Pop-Up held on Rodeo Drive on Thursday (November 17) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Jewelry cases full of KMF pieces decorated the beautiful holiday-themed space. Chocolate bars and magazines with the 38-year-old singer/actress/jewelry designer’s face adorned tables scattered throughout the party.

“Jewelry always brings me a sense of nostalgia,” Kat shared. “I find fashion to be an expression of who are you are, where you were in life and who you were when you received it. There’s a history to it.”

Kat was accompanied to the event by her producer husband David Foster, their 20-month-old son, Rennie, her mother Peisha and sister Adriana.

The couple later performed their holiday hits for the crowd. Be on the look-out for their Christmas-themed album, out this weekend!
