R. Kelly was arrested on Thursday night (July 11) in Chicago and he is facing federal sex crime charges.

The 52-year-old disgraced singer was arrested by New York police detectives and Homeland Security investigators. He will be taken to New York, sources told NBC News.

R. Kelly has been facing sexual abuse allegations for two decades and he has denied the previous charges. He recently pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated sexual abuse in a case involving four women. Three of the women were minors when the alleged abuse happened.

11 more counts of sexual assault and sexual abuse surfaced back in May.

More details on the new charges are expected to be revealed on Friday.

R. Kelly is facing even more legal trouble.

The 52-year-old singer-songwriter was charged with eleven more sexual assault-related charges in Chicago on Thursday (May 30).

He was previously charged with aggravated sexual abuse involving four victims, with three being between the ages of 13 and 17. He pled not guilty.

The new charges are felonies including aggravated sexual assault via force and threats, according to court documents.

He is due back in court in a week to face the new charges.

“These appear to be additional charges involving victim J.P., who met Kelly at his trial in 2008 and allegedly began having sexual contact with him the next year. J.P was at the center of one of the February indictments against Kelly,” reports a Chicago Tribune reporter.

“Kelly‘s attorney says the new indictment essentially charges the same conduct with harsher penalties; he expects that this supersedes the previous indictment involving J.P.”

R. Kelly failed to respond to a lawsuit because he cannot read, according to his lawyers.

Judge Moira Johnson issued an initial judgement in the case after he failed to respond to a lawsuit from one of four women accusing him of sexual abuse, according to The Guardian.

However, the lawsuit was reinstated once R. Kelly‘s lawyers explained that he was in jail when served and he didn’t respond because he can’t read.

“The Defendant suffers from a learning disability that adversely affects his ability to read, in essence he cannot,” the lawyers wrote in a filing late last month.

The victim alleges that she began a sexual relationship with the singer in 1998, when she was 16. He pled not guilty to all sexual abuse charges and denies any wrongdoing.
