The first Harry Potter film, Chris Columbus‘s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, hit theaters almost 18 years ago.

Since then – seven movies later – we have sadly lost some of the talented actors who brought some of our favorite characters to life in the franchise.

Fortunately, J.K. Rowling‘s magical world will live forever and *always* in our hearts thanks to their brilliant performances.

We’re taking a look back at some of the Harry Potter stars who have sadly died since filming.

JK Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, is mourning the death of Robert Hardy, who starred in the films.

The 91-year-old actor played the role of Cornelius Fudge, the minister of magic in the movies. Robert also starred in numerous movies, TV shows, and was a well known stage actor as well.

His family confirmed the news to the BBC saying he had a “tremendous life” and “a giant career in theatre, television and film spanning more than 70 years.

“So very sad to hear about Robert Hardy. He was such a talented actor and everybody who worked with him on Potter loved him.,” she tweeted upon hearing the tragic news.

British actor Robert Hardy has passed away at the age of 91.

His family confirmed the news to the BBC saying he had a “tremendous life” and “a giant career in theatre, television and film spanning more than 70 years.”

In recent years, Robert was well known for his work in the Harry Potter films as Cornelius Fudge, the minister of magic. He also starred in the television series All Creatures Great And Small.
