Janet Jackson: 'I Was Close to Having Diabetes'
Janet Jackson shows off her svelte figure on the cover of Prevention‘s July issue, on newsstands May 29.
Here’s what the 46-year-old singer had to share:
On shedding the pounds: “Health was always a concern. When I gained weight in 2005, my nutritionist was very worried. I was close to having diabetes. Even when I lost it [and] then gained quite a bit back, there was always the thought of heart disease … Knowing I have these problems with body image, I ask my friends and family to tell me when I’ve lost too much. Because I will continue to pick on myself like all other woman do, and say, ‘You need to [lose] more here, more there.’”
On exercise: “I don’t like to workout, and I get bored easily. [My trainer] Tony Martinez is great. When I’m getting ready for a tour, I’ll work out with the dancers. He’ll put us in teams and we’ll do all sorts of drills and races.”
On her guilty pleasures: “Chocolate, cake, caramel apples – there aren’t many things I don’t love.”
On giving advice to her niece, Paris Jackson: “We’ve spoken about the fact that you’re only a child once. I think there’s a time for everything, and now is not the time [to act in films]. I told her I thought she should enjoy being a kid, possibly go to college – or not – but wait till she turns 18. She’s a very tough, smart girl. But it’s a cutthroat industry. I wouldn’t want my child to do it.”

Why did they put her on the cover of Prevention? Pretty ironic considering this woman’s insane yoyo-dieting and yoyo workoutss, botth of which are NOT healthy. The only time she ever looks healthy is when she’s going on tour, otherwise she’s a fat, bloated couch potato.
I can’t wait to read about Janet Jackson’s hundredth diet! I wonder how long til she gets fat again?
I know about the fear of diabetes. My mother, grandmother and aunt are all diabetic and I am terrified, so I am obsessed with my weight. I started going to a dietitian so I can manage it now before I get the dreaded diagnosis.
good, refreshing advice to her niece.
all the best
@Sailor:
same here, my grandfather was a diabetic and my father is as well.
She’s so pretty
I agree that Janet is the last person to give advice on health living. She is always yo-yo dieting. She’s either fat or extremely skinny.
But I commend her for the advice she gave to Paris. She seems like the only one in the family that has true concern for Michael’s children. I hope she has some say in how they are raised because her advice is spot on.
don’t thumbs down me for my first comments. I really like and respect Janet I just think like many people in America (and the world) including me try with both success and failure to stay a certain weight. sometimes we’re skinny. Othertimes especially when not working we let ourselves go. Got nothing but respect for Ms. Jackson.
Oh and good luck Sailor and Michelle. I hope you stay healthy and don’t get diabetes. I’m thinking of ya!
OMG no they photoshoped her legs so bad
Great advice to Paris. She sounds like a good aunt.
Oh well for sure there is something that never changes… she was ugly then and she is ugly now.
She looks great!!
