Jessica Chastain: I Support Jennifer Lawrence & My Fellow Nominees!

Jessica Chastain holds on to a cup of coffee while making her way out of the Walter Kerr Theatre before her last performance of Broadway’s The Heiress on Saturday (February 9) in New York City.

The Oscar-nominated actress recently opened up about women in the industry constantly being pitted against one another.

“I find it very sad that media makes up bogus stories about women fighting in this industry,” she wrote on her Facebook page. “Why do we support the myth that women are competitive and cannot get along?”

“I’ve done two photo shoots with Jennifer Lawrence over the years and have found her to be utterly charming and a great talent,” Jessica added. “Please don’t allow the media to perpetuate the myth that women arent supportive of each other.”

FYI: Jessica is wearing a black pea coat from Belstaff.

I like that she is pro-women!
More women should be pro-women.

# 2

I really like her, she has my support!

I know it’s a PR thing, but I like that she put it out there that women shouldn’t always be portrayed as vengeful b-tches out to scratch each other’s eyes out.

Oh, I’m sure she’s very competitive and it’s probably killing her a little that JLaw is winning the bulk of the awards, but I think that’s just a natural reaction. Point is, outside of the awards race, Jessica and Jennifer apparently do get along so there’s no point in believing the tabs when they go out of their way to make them into enemies.

I dont believe her at all. Watch out Jennifer, the game just got turned up a notch to winthe Oscar. As for Jessica, you HAVE to be extra nice to all actressesnow since you wrote this! That’s a high standard you’ve created for yourself. Shldnt have said anything about this, le duh.

Chastain has been in the industry for almost a decade before reaching success and public recognition. And as for many other actors and actresses she struggled, from what I know about her she doesn’t seem to be an competitive person but rather a vegan pacifist. She’s just happy to be nominated and I don’t think she’s the kind of person who wants to see other people fail so she can feel better about herself.

The media loves to pit successful actresses against each other. It’s playing on a cultural stereotype and they never do it with the male stars. First Jennifer was supposedly in a war with Kristen. Then Angelina. And on and on. No one takes it seriously.

I am rooting for Jennnifer but, it’s always a good thing when actresses publicly support one another. All the actresses nominated are extremely talented…no matter who wins, one thing is for sure: it will be a high quality, well deserved win from ANY one of thr actresses nominated.

@William: You’re right, the media pulls this crap all the time…in an effort to distract people from what is far more interesting and that is the talent of these actresses.

Who is she kidding?
Niether Jessica or Jennifer will win, I am suprised how many people are rooting for either of them.
You guys must watch Emaumelle Riveria or Naomi Watts performences. They beat these two easily.
I wish Marion Cotillard was nominated and Rachel Wiesz. It would have been a far more intresting Best Actress nomanies to watch for. Jennifer and Jessica are both boring . This category is easily the least intresting in my opinion.

@Lily: “A vegan pacifist” who wears leather clothes and carries leather bags everywhere, very vegan!
She is so fake!

I love them both. But i want either Jessica or Emmanuelle Riva to win the Oscar this time. Jennifer is too young. Also, the media makes fake stories about well known actresses being bitchy, just to make money. But we know that everyone is not Lilo or Kim K

this woman is so beautiful.

The banter between Jessica and Jennifer is fabricated and sensationalised by media – both social and professional… one person’s opinion on the internet suddenly turns into a “reliable source”… and because papers, websites don’t state the origin of their source, they can pretty much make up crap along the way just to make a quick buck…

For a generation where we are supposed to be more intelligent and more informed about the world than the generation 30 years before, we’re pretty naive on the “news” that we’re given.

The results of the BAFTAs goes to show there are other candidates worth getting recognised for their WORK, and deserve just as much credit.

Im sure her intentions to get this PR message over are pure, but why give licence to that gossip by issuing this? Should of ignored it for the BS it is and moved on.
Sadly this is the world we live in and I dont think its right but there it is, no amount of statements are going to alter this silly missconception.
unless theres some truth in it of course LOL

I saw how “supportive” she was when Emmanuelle Riva won the BAFTA. She only smiles after she saw the camera on her and pretended that she was happy, that was so fake!
