Debby Ryan – JustJared.com Exclusive Interview

JJ: What can you tell us about what’s coming up on Jessie?

Debby Ryan: This is such a fun and exciting episode. You are going to see lots of cool stunts and hilarious moments. It’s about being a good friend.

JJ: If you could personally give Jessie some advice, what would you tell her?

DR: Be courageous and follow your own path.

JJ: Tell us about a favorite on-set moment or episode you filmed.

DR: I love it when Jessie sings on the show. She got to sing at a little Palooza concert and it was the best moment ever. On this upcoming episode, I insisted on doing my own stunts especially when concerning the snake, and they let me. I discovered later that my stunt double was afraid of snakes and so relieved when she heard that I actually wanted to do the snake scene.

JJ: Let’s talk fashion! How would you describe your personal style?

DR: Classic, wearable, sophisticated with fun and rock and roll elements.

JJ: What’s one thing we’d never see you wearing and why?

DR: Sweatpants outside of the house or leggings as pants.

JJ: Who is your personal style icon?

DR: Music’s Chase Ryan or Grace Kelly, Emma Stone, Kerry Washington, Jennifer Lawrence, Zoey Saldana, and Taylor Swift.

JJ: We know you’re big into music. Any plans on pursuing that more?

DR: Yes, I’m writing an album and I don’t think anyone is going to expect this kind of sound out of me.

JJ: What is your go-to song right now?

DR: “Colors” by April Smith.

JJ: What do you like to do for fun when you’re not working?

DR: Play music, listen to music, write music, hang out with my friends, bake, write screen plays, come up with show ideas, watch old movies, read.

JJ: If you could guest star on any other show, which would it be and why?

DR: How I Met Your Mother, New Girl, Big Bang Theory, Dexter, and Pretty Little Liars. I am a fan of those shows, the comedians are brilliant and the writing and directing is amazing!

JJ: Have you ever been starstruck and by who?

DR: John Travolta and Emma Stone. I met both of them when I was only 14 or 15. They made an indelible impression on me.

Chris Galya – JustJared.com Exclusive Interview

JJ: So let’s talk about the show! Do you think Tony and Jessie are good together?

Chris Galya: Yeah, they’re good together. I feel like there are a lot of things that Tony does that sometimes alarms Jessie, but it turns out that she’s overreacting and she thinks something way worse. Maybe Tony doesn’t explain things as he should.

JJ: Are you similar or different from Tony?

CG: We’re pretty different. Tony is like, “Yeah, you can meet my parents! And we can go to a restaurant together!” I don’t know if it’s just that he doesn’t say things properly. In a lot of the instances, there are a lot of assumptions that are made and things other people think are gonna happen, but don’t end up happening. He’s crazy in love with Jessie – crazy stupid love, I guess. Like Ryan Gosling.

JJ: Aw! So what’s been your favorite moment on set so far?

CG: There’s a couple fun ones we did. There was one thing where we got to go into this edible mud. That was pretty fun. It was like cake mix. It was an episode where they were in a salon and get into a fight in a mud bath. But they made it out cake batter mix, so if it happened to get in your mouth, it was still okay. It was pretty awesome. That took like two hours to get off, but it was so fun. I like doing stuff along those lines. The teacup one was pretty interesting. That one was cool. There was a lot of water involved. It was warm. They kept it warm for us. That was pretty fun.

JJ: We heard you started out modeling. Tell us about that.

CG: Yeah, I modeled for five years. I started out when I was 19. I was offered a three-year contract with Ford Models in the beginning of my career and that brought me all around the world. I lived in Paris. I modeled in Milan on runways in Alexander McQueen. I was the face of Lacoste. I’ve been all over the place. I was doing that for a good moment up until I moved out here. My model agent in New York had connections out here [in L.A.] and I wanted to get into acting. I went to L.A. for a vacation and the meeting that I had ended up going well and I stayed here. I didn’t know I was moving to L.A. I ended up getting Jessie two months later.

JJ: How would describe your personal style?

CG: I’m all over the place. I would say 90s grunge mixed with present day a little bit. I try to filter in every kind of… 80s, 90s, any decade really. I’ll throw a vintage t-shirt on and then I’ll do a Diamond Supply snapback with a drop-crotch sweatpants from Zara. It’s all over the place. I can do some days where I’m very… people like to say “hipster” just because they are black glasses, but I’m like, “These are my glasses.” But it depends, all different kinds of styles. I don’t stick to one certain thing. I’ll see certain people sometimes and they’ll be like, “Oh, you have a totally different vibe.” And I’m like, “Yeah. I do.” I’ve gone through many phases in my life and I filter them in.

JJ: What’s something we’d never see you wear?

CG: Probably a Hawaiian shirt. I don’t like polos. I think polos are stupid (laughs). Crocs. But I will wear them in private, actually. Because those things are comfortable. What else won’t I wear? I will wear a onesie or a snuggie, I don’t care. Pajamas, all of the above. What else won’t I wear… anything that’s really crazy patterns.

JJ: Do you watch a lot of television? What are some of your favorite shows?

CG: I’m a big TV Netflix junkie. When it comes to TV, I’m all over Workaholics. That’s one of my favorite shows. I watch Shameless, Girls, The Office, Tosh.O, New Girl, mostly comedies. A lot of my people and my friends are like, “You should watch Homeland or Game of Thrones.” I’m like, “No, that’s boring. I don’t like that stuff.” I like laughing and seeing people laugh. Mainly comedies… Parks and Rec, Community

JJ: All good choices! So have you ever had any crazy fan experiences?

CG: I just moved into a new place and it’s in a building with a bunch of other tenants. And I heard this family and a bunch of kids upstairs, and I ended up seeing them one day. But I didn’t really think anything of it. So one day, my girlfriend and I are coming outside and the woman comes up to me and she has three or four kids with her. She doesn’t bring up Jessie or Disney Channel or anything. She goes, “Hi, I’m so-and-so from upstairs. I’m sorry I have kids, I know it’s loud.” And I’m like, “It’s cool.” And then she’s like, “These are my kids.” I thought she was just doing the introduction. So maybe a day or two later, I come out and I see them again, and the kid’s like, “Tony!” So I guess they knew from the beginning but they didn’t want to say anything. I turned around and was like, “What’s up buddy?” I gave him a high-five and he was shy obviously. It was just funny how she didn’t say at first, “Also, my kids watch the show.” It was just like, “Here! Meet my kids!”

They are always timid or shy. Most of the time they see me and they’ll whisper to each other or to their parents. And they’ll come up and say something. But nothing too crazy. There was one time I was in a restaurant and there were kids talking about the Disney Channel. There was a table full of a softball team or something, a bunch of young girls. They spotted me and literally, there were 15 of them who all just started to stare at me in the restaurant. I got up and I was taking pictures. It’s more chill when it’s little kids. I’m pretty close to 6 foot and kids are really small, so they have to look up to really even make eye contact with me, so a lot of the time I go unknown. But when they do see me, it’s nothing like crazy fanatic, teen girl-fanning out, trying to take me down in the cleaners or something.

JJ: Hah! Well, that’s good. So any news on a third season of Jessie yet?

CG: I haven’t seen anything yet. I know they are going to finish shooting a second season in the next few weeks actually. I think I’m going to be in one of the last few episodes. We have a lot more episodes than a lot of shows on TV. There’s 28 in this season. So who knows, but I’m pretty confident. A lot of the Disney shows run three or four seasons, so I feel good about that.

JJ: Acting-wise, what else do you hope to do in the future?

CG: I definitely like comedy and I definitely want to get into that – whether it’s TV or a film. I feel like a lot of people don’t know my comedic side. Because I can be pretty insane once you get to know me. But yeah, I grew up doing art and went to school for art. It would be cool to see myself in a film that has crazy special effects and just to see yourself in that kind of environment, and just the people who work behind the project. I have a great appreciation for that world, so it’s kind of cool seeing yourself when they do the whole CGI and the graphic arts. It turns out and you’re like, “That’s pretty awesome.” That’s more exciting for me, to be honest. I like the art about it.

JJ: Who are some of your favorite comedians?

CG: When I was like eight, I was a huge fan of Jim Carrey. Now it has to be Aziz Ansari, Daniel Tosh, Anthony Jeselnik, Blake Anderson and all the kids from Workaholics. I can keep going. Adam Sandler, Zach Galifianakis. There are so ones that I appreciate.

Jessie airs Friday nights @ 8PM ET on the Disney Channel!
