Dylan Farrow: Dad Woody Allen Sexually Assaulted Me at Age 7

UPDATE 2: Woody Allen responds to the claims. Read it here!

UPDATE 1: Cate Blanchett and Alec Baldwin release statements about the allegations.
______________________

Dylan Farrow, the adopted daughter of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen, is opening up for the first time about her allegation that her father sexually assaulted her at age 7.

“[W]hen I was seven years old, Woody Allen took me by the hand and led me into a dim, closet-like attic on the second floor of our house. He told me to lay on my stomach and play with my brother’s electric train set. Then he sexually assaulted me,” Dylan wrote in an open letter posted by The New York Times.

Woody Allen was never convicted of any crime. That he got away with what he did to me haunted me as I grew up,” she added: “That torment was made worse by Hollywood. All but a precious few (my heroes) turned a blind eye. Most found it easier to accept the ambiguity, to say, ‘who can say what happened,’ to pretend that nothing was wrong. Actors praised him at awards shows. Networks put him on TV. Critics put him in magazines.”

In the letter, Dylan asked stars like Cate Blanchett and Alec Baldwin “What if it had been your child”? and asks Emma Stone and Scarlett Johansson “What if it had been you?”

WHAT DO YOU THINK of Dylan Farrow’s open letter about her father Woody Allen?

    Oh dear…
Sadly, I believe her. He deserves to pay for his crimes. No matter who he is :/

  • Jessica

This is horrible. Well, given he’s now married to his much-younger adopted daughter, I don’t doubt Dylan’s story. I hope she finds comfort and healing from her mother and siblings, as well as therapy. Allen should have been charged with this horrific crime!

  • mlllllllllllllllllllllef

    oulala…

  • nope

We live in a world where it’s so much easier and much more convenient to blame the victim (in this case, what was a 7 year old child) Dylan is incredibly brave for speaking out about her abuse. No one deserves to be sexually assaulted, ever. And he absolutely needs to pay for his crimes.

  • aquarius64

Wow. I just…wow. Given the current attitude about child abuse, any Hollywood notable who publicly defends Woody Allen is putting his/her career on the line.

  • wow

    i believe it.
    what a creep.
wonder if any of those she mentioned will reply.

  • LegalBetch

He’s a disgusting pervert and everyone knows it. Unfortunately, the Hollywood sycophants would rather turn a deaf ear to the reality of who he is and grovel at his feet in order to be cast in one of his monotonous movies.

  • Listen

    No doubt it is true.

  • wow

wait but isn’t Mia a defender of Roman Polanksi?

  • LegalBetch

@wow, the article is about Dylan Farrow and Woody Allen…what you’re bringing up is irrelevant to the case at hand. Perhaps something for a different article, different day.

  • marilyn

i think its probably true but here is the “other side” a defender who knows woody

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/01/27/the-woody-allen-allegations-not-so-fast.html

  • Gretchen

This isn’t the first time she’s come out with this story, when she was younger she told people about it and for whatever reason (I’m assuming not wanting a child to go have to go through all of the press/courts etc) they never went to trial. Good for her for calling out people who choose to work with him, he’s a great director but how could you ever give this man support.

  • wow

It is relevant in that Mia is usually the one cursing WA who is a creep for sure but it says alot about her that she has no problem with RP another hollywood creep.
Does she only care if its her child? Her daughter Dylan just wrote asking people what is it was their child and I am sure Mia has alot to do with this letter if you follow Mia you will know that.

  • love

These poor girls are shamed, called the S word etc…I cant stand pervs.vile disgusting human beings ruining womens lives. No matter how much you over come assault like this it still haunts you. I was in high school when I was assaulted and I would be lying if I didn’t say it hasn’t affected me.

  • Ali

No one commenting here knows if it is true. The only thing we know is that the court, at the time of the accusation, said there was no case, and he was found not guilty. For this family to go on and on publicly shaming Woody Allen, at this point in their lives – both his and the Farrows – amounts to character assassination. Dylan needs to talk directly to him and sort out her feelings. They could do it in therapy, with a rabbi, or a priest. But the New York Times is not the place. And it is wrong for blogs like this to reprint this slander.. No matter if it happened, or didn’t happen, this issue needs to be healed privately, responsibly, and with care. Not in a public forum.

  • Bebe

This is a dreadful but unsurprising development. Lets see if the media running along jewish lines finds a clever way to discredit her or make everyone fall asleep over the issue

  • nope

@Ali how about you stop policing how victims of assault deal with their trauma? that would be a great start. also, he wasn’t found ‘not guilty’ — he was never charged. massive difference.

  • beaugard

I believe her, but I always have. But what am I supposed to do? Make a citizen’s arrest? I’ve always said I thought he molested her and Soon-yi was a smoke screen about it- it was pretty obvious to anyone who really looked into it. It’s no sacrifice to say you won’t watch his movies anymore because his movies aren’t any good anymore. In fact, in some instances, it could be considered punishment to watch them if you still liked him. I just don’t know what Dylan, Mia, Ronan want us to do about it- I have always said I thought the charges were true, that is about all I can do.

  • Living in a box

And that’s how you make a twist. Mia Farrow defending Roman Polanski, while her adopted daughter been sexual assault at age 7. Interesting.

  • LegalBetch

@Ali, it was actually never tried, and the State Attorney even said that he had probable cause to prosecute Allen on charges of sexual molestation of Dylan, but dropped the case to spare her the trauma of appearing in court. It’s actually VERY important to talk about child molestation in a public forum to prevent these vile acts from going unnoticed and untried in the future.

  • mom50

Shame on you Ali. Woody is too powerful and needs to be taken down. You sound like you want it to be kept in the closet. BS!! I suppose you have never suffered abuse when you were young. Your very dumb!

  • Verity

@wow: That’s something no one wants to talk about. This is a she says yes and he says no. If what she says is true, then he should be punished but if Woody Allen is innocent then she should be reprimanded.

  • niagirl

Didn’t Mia find out about Woody and their adopted daughter, now his wife, when she discovered nude photos he had takened of her. IMO it doesn’t make it better that he married the girl. Adopted or not she was his daughter. I have never understood Hollywood’s ass kissing of this man. Its not like he discovered a cure for cancer he makes mediocre movies.

  • bonnie

    @23
woody is a creep so I am not defending him but just to be clear:
    - mia was never married to him
-woody never lived with mia and the kids
–even mia says woody only got close to her after the age of 18
–her adopted dad is mia’s ex– previn is her last name
    - he was not a father figure to her

having said that- he is gross and i think its sick thing to do-date your girlfriends daughter….but he was not a father figure to her.

  • bonnie

OH forgot to add…however, it is sick too because even though he was not a father figure to her– he should have thought of his kids….and how weird it would be for them to have their dad date their adopted sister.
That to me is worse then what he did to mia….he should have thought of her as at least the sister to his kids even if she wasn’t a daughter to him.

  • Joanna Funkhouser

Roman Polanski had a one-time situation with a young girl that he believed to be much older than she portrayed. He admitted to what he did. The girl even continued to plead that he not be prosecuted for it. BIG difference between Roman Polanski and Woody Allen who repeatedly abused his own kids!! HUGE difference! @wow:

  • ann

I’d be more inclined to believe her if her mother wasn’t a lying bitter psycho like Mia Farrow who is obsessed with Woody Allen and would tell her kids anything to make him look bad. I wouldn’t put it past her to plant this story in her child’s mind, sadly.

  • kami

since everyone in hollywood wants to ignore what this pedophile has done, i’m glad dylan finally said all this. and i’m glad it was in the ny times. people need to stop putting the blame on mia and dylan. all the blame falls squarely on wood allen.

  • Katie Turner

She never defended Polanski! She had to appear at his trial by subpoena and simply said she had no first hand knowledge of him having sex with the girl. BIG DIFFERENCE. the reason mia, rowan and other siblings won’t stop talking about these “accusations” is because they want the world to know who he is and what he did. Same as I would if itd been my family member and the monster who hurt a 7 yr old was getting awards and praised.

  • marilyn

    this is noteworthy
its a piece from the article linked above

Moses Farrow, now 36, and an accomplished photographer, has been estranged from Mia for several years. During a recent conversation, he spoke of “finally seeing the reality” of Frog Hollow and used the term “brainwashing” without hesitation. He recently reestablished contact with Allen and is currently enjoying a renewed relationship with him and Soon-Yi.

  • truth

Mia Farrow is totally forgetable but Woody is a master piece. Now we have Angie, the modern Mia Farrow.

  • Di

@Ali: ali- Dylan was seven at the time and probably couldn’t voice her feelings at the time probably due to shame and fear. For whatever reason she feels confident enough now to do it. The fact is that she did it in a very public place is her way to shame him. I say good for her. She is speaking out so the whole world can know what a pervert he is. If he did it to her, he did it and probably is still doing it to others. She is giving others a chance to speak out and possibly saving others from this POS! You have no right to try to give her advice. You are not her.

  • ?

Farrow is a highly unstable person with a sordid past and Woody is capable of anything…so ?

  • marilyn

also from article linked above: Mia KNEW of the Golden Globes tribute before it happened because she APPROVED of her image being used in it. She could have declined but wanted to be a part of it. So then she and Ronan tweeted through it as if they were victims. Very strange.
    Mia has serious issues.
I am no fan of Woody but you have to read the article above to hear both sides.
This case never went to trial because there was no evidence to support it.

  • scmaize

@Ali: The court did NOT say there was no case. They found there was more than enough evidence to charge him, but Dylan was afraid to testify, and her mother felt she had been traumatized too much already. The evidence was sufficient that Allen was denied visitation. I see no reason why Dylan shouldnt expose his crime and how it affected her to anyone she wishes, including publicly. He should have been put behind bars, so I hardly think his victim needs to worry about damaging his reputation by telling the truth.

  • Petra

She couldn’t speak for herself when she was little but she is doing it now. Many abused children get memories from past abuse when they grow up. If justice exists in this country Woody Allen has to be put in jail so he doesn’t abuse any more innocents.

  • umm

hollyweird is filled with rich and powerful people who like boys and girls and who are basically untouchable

  • louise

    @Ali:

Um, would say an abused person who doesnt have any contact with the abuser for obvious reasons ever want to enter a room with them??????? I DONT THINK SO.

I personally think it’s a little naive to think that something like that could resolve such an issue.

No-one knows but them and there was no trial because as previously stated, the supposed victim was a child and had already gone through enough and they decided to spare her more emotional damage. She has however talked about it over the years and due to recent events – globes has spoken up. Based on Allens past record, I dont really have much of a problem believing her to be honest. He’s an over-rated weirdo who married his adoptive daughter.

  • Akari

@mom50: you didn’t understand what he’s saying. It prefers that she went to therapy to discuss her problems and she could have the courage to go to court to prosecute him for this crime. Tell the time magazine isn’t a good start. Once she had her justice then she can open to the public.

  • Wow

Here we go again… Mia needs some attention so she trots out one of her brainwashed kids to do the dirty work for her. Blah blah Woody Allen is the devil.. and like clockwork her disciples log on to the internet to back up her claims. It’s the same thing every time. Maybe one day Mia will be held accountable for what she’s done to her kids, but I doubt it.

  • http://Www.gsr-twn.blogspot.com ROBOCOP

No.30; Don’t forget Mia Farrow’s inspired performance in Rosemary’s Baby. And yes, Soon was not Woody’s daughter.

  • Mary

@Ali: Well if it is true and character assassination is the only “justice” she can get then I say go for it. And healing by talking in therpay with your abuser?! seriously?!

  • allison

@marilyn: The guy writes why would WA go to an house full of kids and nannies and molest a child. I don’t know why did that former coach at penn state go to a college gym shower where there are teachers, students etc molest a child.
Second if Woody Allen rarely with the family, thus he could not become a father figure, than how did he get to know Soo Yi so well that he took pictures of her in bra and panties.
The writer also says the relationship started when Soo Yi was 18. So says who?

  • @43

I think if you read it even Mia says he didn’t get to know Soon Yi until she was 18 or so. At least at a close level.

  • mghtyui

    You are all misinformed.

  • MG

Some people think that she’s just trying to blow smoke and get attention now (or they simply don’t believe her), but Dylan has the viral internet now to really speak about what happened to her. I don’t care if she waited 80 years to talk about it, it’s her right to do so. Unless something like this has happened to you, you can’t tell her what’s right and what’s wrong about how to speak about it. I feel for her, because that’s a horrible thing to happen to her. It’s horrible in itself, but for it to happen to you at the hands of someone who is supposed to love and protect you, and then to see that person get praised for years, I man…that’s tough. I honestly can’t even believe people don’t think she’s being truthful. If the fact that he married his stepdaughter wasn’t enough of a clue that he’s a creep…ew. If I was an actress, I would never do one of his films. No role is worth working with a pred.

  • Layne

@ann: I tend to agree. I am not saying he didn’t do it, but Mia is as nutty as Woody. She is also very bitter, she might have brainwashed the daughter. The daughter is recounting only one incident, one would think there would be an ongoing pattern of abuse.

  • Neil

    @aquarius64:

Have you read all the facts. I know it gets in the way of a good story and it’s kind of a drag having to read all that stuff. But consider this, Roman Polanski can’t ever return to the States because he would be arrested. Not so Woody Allen. Why? If he is guilty why wouldn’t he be arrested? It isn’t like Woody is some super rich power broker or it isn’t that Mia doesn’t have money or influential friends, so why? Ask yourself that.

  • Domino

I don’t believe it until there is proof. I smell bullshit at her saying it until now. I bet if her dad wasn’t famous she wouldn’t say a thing.

  • Right!

@nope: Agreed. He did it. The fact that he married his own adopted daughter speaks volumes to his lack of decency and his thumbing his nose at the law. He doesn’t give a DAMN about morals, ethics, decency and has no class. He’s a pedophile and got away with it until now.

Bravo Miss Farrow for speaking out against this monster. I have boycotted his films my entire life and haven’t missed a damn thing.
