Celebrities React to Everything That's Happening in Ferguson, Missouri

Celebrities have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts on what has happened over the past several days in Ferguson, Missouri between the police, the demonstrators, and the shooting of unarmed teenager Michael Brown.

Last night, police fired tear gas and smoke bombs at demonstrators, all of which was caught on camera. Michael was gunned down just days before he was supposed to start college. He was not armed and the police officer who killed him has not had his name released to the public.

Celebrities have taken to Twitter to discuss police brutality and what is happening.

“I believe these cops are intentionally trying to inflame the situation. They want an excuse,” John Legend tweeted. “Recall the local cop telling those “animals” to “bring it” on CNN… He wants a fight. Calling us “animals” has been the language to justify slavery, Jim Crow and all manner of injustice. Dehumanization and racism go together.”

Keke Palmer, Penn Badgley, Lena Dunham, and more have also taken to Twitter to express their thoughts.

Keke Palmer: “For Ferguson, MO “Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men.” “Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend.” “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” Anger & unproductive outrage only causes more chaos & gives ppl a reason to believe that their wrong doings are validated. When you come in peace & reason, you play as a mirror to their actions instead of a distraction. Encourage love & positivity, that’s God’s way. Anyone against you wants for you to self destruct. DONT LET THE HATE CONSUME YOU, FIGHT SMARTER. #peace #love #unity”

Penn Badgley: “Some of us simply cannot imagine. ‘The ghost of Mike Brown: why must a dead black child defend his right to life?’”

Lena Dunham: Sending love and support to the citizens of Ferguson, who are in pain and asking for change.

Andy Cohen: Tear gas in Ferguson last night??? When does this end?

Mia Farrow: Police in #Ferguson – you are not supposed to point loaded weapons at unarmed citizens who are protesting peacefully

Martha Plimpton: Thinking of the people of Ferguson, MO tonight & sending love. I hope they all remain safe, & that they’re not disturbed in their mission. This country is in need of a reckoning. I hope the families & citizens of Ferguson, MO are heard.Turning our cities into war zones, that’s not the citizen’s choice. That’s the state. The people deserve peace.

Billy Eichner: CNN alternating between Ferguson & Robin Williams is…strange. Its a debate about unarmed black men followed by…a clip from Patch Adams!

John Green: Journalist @WesleyLowery arrested sitting at a McDonald’s in Ferguson. His twitter feed right now is terrifying.

who is more important? @ 08/14/2014 at 1:21 pm

Why is so important taht we know what celebrities think about political or local issues? I mean I know they are citizens and have the right to have a point of view that I do understand but what I do not get it is why the media and press has to announce like headlines news about their opinions, as if their opinion are more important that ordinary and normal people opinion. Other people also have their opinions too and they are nto celebrities, ask them too,

I do not care what John Legend think about that, Im sure he has my opinion and I have my opinion, so what is the big deal thta his opinion may be more important than mine and has to be published just cause he is a celeb and im not, im also a citizen.

@who is more important?:

A lot of people are more inclined to pay attention when a celeb says something. Awareness is needed.

# 7

It’s good to see celebs like Penn stand up for human rights and not be afraid of calling out fans who disagree, even at the risk of losing their popularity. These issues need awareness and celebs have the platform to spread it.

@allie: And sometimes or most of the times celebs opinions are not the smartest ones out there.

Not every officer is a rascist,a Sumter police officer Gaetano Acerra went above and beyond for a 13-year-old boy.
A few weeks ago, 13-year-old Cameron Simmons called Sumter police because he was upset after fighting with his mother. The teenager told police he didn’t want to live in the house with his family anymore.

@juliana
we aren’t talking about “every officer.” focusing on the fact that “not every officer is racist” derails the actual conversation that needs to be held and the actions that need to occur.

@Living in a box: Nothing! Our president a tool and you barely see any sympathy/support towards American problems in the media anymore, especially towards American blacks.

History is repeating itself, because we as American are too stupid to evolve.

@who is more important?: then why r u on this site
