Lena Dunham Won't Get Married Until It's Legal for Everyone

Lena Dunham steps out for an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, airing on Monday (March 9).

The 28-year-old Girls actress said that she and her boyfriend Jack Antonoff will not get married until it’s legal for same-sex couples to do so in all 50 states.

“Well it’s something that the idea of having a celebration that can’t be fully shared among all the people in my life and all the people that we love just doesn’t really feel like a celebration at all,” Lena said. “So until that’s something that everyone can join into with no sense of being left out on any level, politically, emotionally, it’s just not something that we’re gonna do.”

How brave of her to stand up for something popular. I always have to laugh at celebrities acting like they’re holding their marriages hostage from the world. What are we supposed to say? “Please, we’ll do anything, just get married!” Get over yourself.

  • gradybridges

Exactly. I’m all for marriage equality but STFU now. It’s legal in over half of the States and eventually the SCOTUS will say it’s legal everywhere. Probably this year. Way to stand on that limb.
Now if she included the entire world then that would be at least something different because they still kill homosexuals in some countries.

So, she’ll never, ever get married. Who cares. Go back home to Britain. STAY there. DON’T ever come to America because America DOES NOT WANT YOU!!

  • xyz

    Another hypocrite and dumbass

It is not and it will never be legal in America. America roots out and kills faggoes as part of security against the alien enemy. The presently useless and powerless POTUS has no say in those matters.

Either Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie said the same thing and look at them now. Plus, didn’t she just move to a state (California) where Blacks and Latinos voted OVERWHELMINGLY against gay marriage a few years ago, before the courts overturned it.

  • Michael

Your ignorance is stunning. It is in fact legal in many states, and it is highly likely that SCOTUS will make it the law of the land in late Summer. I don’t agree with it, but its the truth. As far as your comment below about going back to England – she’s an American born idiot, not English. You’re making us right-wingers look bad, doofus.

She is a nasty pig. Sorry she has mental issues.

  • Drew Flanagan

Not only that, is the even in a serious relationship with someone? But really, I don’t think it will ever be legal to marry your little sister.

  • CranAppleSnapple

Probably would mean more coming from someone else who has a shot in hell of getting married.

  • Mz.Understood

    Heard THAT before!

  • PM2901

In other words. . .her boyfriend doesn’t want to marry her. I guarantee you, as soon as he dumps her, he’ll get with a model and be married within 3 months.

  • PM2901

Her boyfriend’s friends are probably high-5ing him and snickering behind her flat back.

  • PM2901

I think all guys should start using that line to their girlfriends. That way, the embarrassed, hopeful girlfriend can save face.

I’m sure holding out on your own marriage, if that’s something that you want, is not what Gay people in general want. She says that now because she really doesn’t want to be married; life changes, situations change. It’s a nice sentiment, but not necessary to show your support for equality.
