One Direction's Liam Payne & Girlfriend Sophia Smith Split

Liam Payne and longtime love Sophia Smith have ended their relationship.

The 22-year-old One Direction member had been dating her since 2013 after meeting at St. Peter’s Collegiate School in Wolverhampton, England.

Liam and Sophia have split,” a source told the Daily Mail. “Liam is incredibly sad, but is going to keep busy. He really hopes that everybody will respect both his and Sophia‘s privacy and stop speculating.”

Liam took to Twitter with a cryptic message after the news broke.

I’m pretty sure they haven’t split. Considering the source was a fake Sophia account. So…

A bridge too far in the name of money by greedy management. Some form of burnout was inevitable. Nearly 400 performances to over 8 million people in under 5 years. 5 albums with much of the recording done on the road. All the ceremony & promo attendances on many continents. Both Zayn & Liam having issues is no surprise. They are very similar people. Those making light of anxiety and depression disorders should inform themselves. Liam has nothing to worry about career wise. He has probably been given a handful of Valium & Cymbalta to get him over the line. They need this break badly & to get away from management arrangements etc. that they signed as naive, bright eyed kids wanting desperately to succeed. They need to take control of their own lives& time management. Liam will be fine! Breakups are only normal & a symptom of the above.

Well, Liam has to worry about his future career.
Don’t get me wrong, Liam seems like nice decent dude, but watching him was like watching the paint dry, sure he has good voice but he’s forgettable and doesn’t have IT factor to keep people enganging to what he’s selling, without other more interesting 1D members he’s just can’t make it as solo.
But no worry, with his money, he will do good for the rest of his life if he investing it the smart way, perhaps some comeback reunion tour ten years later will do.

Liam has his fair share of supporters & wants to go into production where he is very good but would waste a great voice.

After the loss of their 3 octave high tenor in Zayn, Liam has picked up the majority of his parts. He also picked up a lot of work on the new album as part writer & producer. The poor guy is burnt out & needs a break. Without Liam they can’t perform since Zayn left..

They seemed so perfect together. They’re both still so young though. Maybe one day they’ll find their way back together.

Sophia was Liam’s beard. Perrie was Zayn’s beard. They both aren’t losing any sleep over losing these women because they both have each other, if you get my drift. There is still a lot going on with One Direction that people don’t know about or refuse to see. I don’t say this lightly. I know for a fact that Niall is the only member who identifies himself as straight.

  • Glyn Ruck

I’m well aware of the allegations & choose to ignore them. It is nobody else’s business including you & I. They are private & make no difference in my life. They are who they are & that does not diminish their talent or my respect for them in any way.

My comments stand irrespective. The guys need a break.

  • Gina

They need a break from the bearding too. It is your prerogative to ignore it, but by choosing to accept the pr narrative that these girls were actual girlfriends means that one supports the boys’ managements homophobic need to forcibly closet these boys. These boys need to know that there are people out there who accept who they are. Management forcing them to have beards is a form of abuse and I for one choose not to be complacent in that.

I am not accepting the PR narrative. I am not interfering either. They know full well who supports them irrespective (see many of my comments over a very long while). Modest & Simon Jones PR suck!. Contracts are fortunately nearly over hence my comments on “management arrangements”. It is your prerogative to do as you wish. I hope you understand it might be resented. It’s now their choice as to how they wish to manage their lives & that’s private nevermind what you choose to believe or not believe. My advice is that you mind your own business. They have had enough interference in their young lives. Let them be. Sarah Stennett at Turn First Artists that now manages Zayn does not operate like Modest. Neither does Purple PR.

  • Gina

I don’t believe I am interfering. I’ve seen MANY instances where the boys themselves rebel against management and hint at their sexual orientation almost as if they are trying to let the fans know the truth. I think in many ways they appreciate knowing we are out there and that we see the real them. Commenting on a message board is doing them no harm.

  • Glyn Ruck

You carry on as you wish. They have nothing to rebel against any more & will have things their own way irrespective going forward. It’s now their choice. “Nuff said on the matter. I will continue to support Zayn from a business perspective & fight against Xenophobia. I wish them all the very best with their future careers.

  • Gina

    Sounds good to me.

  • vn_102

I’m talking about Liam future solo career and his lack of IT factor to charm the audience without other boys by his side.

You did realize that most of top 40 billboard hits nowadays have mediocre voice at best but somehow they managed became well known singers with autotunes superpower.
It’s no longer the best singer era like 90s anymore, it’s more like the best marketing gimmick and interesting charming personality more nowadays for singer to have career longevity apparently.

  • Glyn Ruck

I understand the industry very well!

  • GatoNegro

Gina, you need to get back on your reality meds. You are just soooo wrong.

  • Gina

I think you’re the one that needs a dose of reality sweetie and get back to me when you get a clue. Watch these videos and tell me I’m wrong:
