Too bad Sonoya Mizuno isn’t famous enough yet to get plum roles.

  • Dee

    this hurts my heart.

I enjoyed the manga film version. I think SJ is great for the role and hope they don’t eff this one up.
Sonoya Mizuno was good in Ex Machina but I doubt they’d give such a headline role to someone who’s only played a no-line robot before.

So a white actress in an Asian role. Did anyone learn from Aloha? The character is Japanese. I call bs.

  • Anna

Why does she need to be real famous? Whatever happened to getting unknown actresses so the films are easier to sink into? I can’t see Scarlett as Motoko Kusanagi. Have these people learned nothing from Dragonball z, Avatar the last airbender, Gods of Egypt, Oldboy, and Aloha? People don’t want white washing. Sonoya Mizuno would have been perfect for the role. FerCat… I’m in pain. Help me. :(

Asian role? What did u smoke? And Johansson isnt white, shes Jewish. Do ur homework next time.

  • pebobryson

Ugh….this is as disappointing as Tom Cruise in Interview With A Vampire. BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

  • Anna

“And Johansson isnt white, shes Jewish.”
You’re mixing race with ethnicity. Her ethnicity is Jewish and Danish, her race is white. Also Motoko Kusanagi is a cyborg but she was made in Japan and resembles a Japanese person. Even her name is in Japanese. I guess since she’s a cyborg they can somewhat get away with her race being white instead of asian but she still doesn’t fit the character since Kusanagi has always been Japanese/asian.

Honey, it’s Japanese manga, it deserves a Japanese actress. This is the whitewashing people complain about with Hollywood, and for good reason. If the character is Japanese in origin, the actor/actress should be as well. And yes, she’s white. She’s half Jewish(Ashkenazi, Eastern Europan) and Danish. Take a chill pill.

Sonoya Mizuno is both intense and captivating.
There’s a pecking order in Hollywood’s big budget films. New actresses though talented don’t get as much notice for leads. Smaller films have more leeway.
Take the Psylocke role that went to Munn. Mizuno was far more suited for the role both in physicality and the British accent. But I doubt she was ever considered. And Munn’s plastic surgery actually makes her resemble Mizuno now.

  • Ashermerkabah

FerCat, I agree completely. I’ve been saying that Sonoya Mizuno would have played Psylocke perfectly for awhile now. She just IS Psylocke. Maybe if Marvel had the rights to the Xmen movie franchise, I like to think that’s who they would have cast.

  • FerCat

Sonoya has a real bright future ahead of her. She perfectly fills that empty niche Hollywood keeps getting called out on. She’s going to be their go to girl. Munn has shown time and again that she has clear limitations.

Plus; Sonoya Mizuno is a great name. :)
