Angelina Jolie Slams Trump's Anti-Muslim Remarks

Angelina Jolie Pitt gives the keynote speech at BBC’s live event on the global refugee crisis on Monday (May 16) in London, England.

The 40-year-old actress and UNHCR Special Envoy was asked to comment on presidential candidate Donald Trump‘s thoughts on Muslims.

“To me, America is built on people from around the world coming together for freedoms, especially freedom of religion. So it’s hard to hear this is coming from someone who is pressing to be an American president,” Angelina said while shaking her head (via CNN).

Make sure to watch Angelina‘s full speech from the World on the Move event.

Rochester pupil quizzes Angelina Jolie Pitt
    ======================================
Rochester pupil Paulina Zubryzycka has spoken to Hollywood star Angelina Jolie Pitt on the worldwide refugee crisis.

The UN refugee agency’s special envoy, Ms Jolie Pitt has warned that the international humanitarian system for refugees is breaking down.

Among the Radio 4 audience was 12-year-old Thomas Aveling School pupil Paulina Zubryzycka, who asked the Hollywood star how people should support young migrants entering their community.

Speaking as part of the BBC’s World on the Move day, Ms Jolie Pitt told her the best thing to do was “reach out” and “be a real friend.”

“That’s a lovely question,” she said. “I think I would say the best thing you can do is to be a real friend.

“Be to this new person as you would want to be treated if it was you in that situation – reach out, listen and ask about their culture and where they come from, and help others around you.
“Maybe you see some bullying; maybe you see some people who are not understanding and showing respect. You can really lead by example and embrace them and give them the welcome they deserve.”

Paulina said the Hollywood star gave an inspirational speech, adding: “Her answer was very well put together and I definitely know she has been supporting UNHCR for a long time by the way she answered the question.”

Hear hear to @AngelinaJolie Special Envoy of #UNHCR – excellent speech on #worldonthemove passionate full of empathy long sited. compelling

I just side-eyed this “slamming headline” unfortunately seems like everyone has jumped on the bandwagon instead of hearing the factual context of what Angie actually has said. It’s always the things she doesn’t say makes headline, in this instance she never even mentioned his name let alone allude to him.

To be fair she made it clear that all manner of people were displaced and were deserving of support regardless of race etc.

It’s because the press is so impotent, they have to magnify the words of others in anyway they can.

It seems that her go to colors are black, white and grey.

Hmm, I’m SMH about this & other thread’s title re AJP supposedly slamming Trump with her statements @ BBC’s #‎WorldOnTheMove .

    Really, “slams”?!

Have they not listened AJP’s speech carefully or intently:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Py0TkvwIxI8&feature=youtu.be

Or better yet see her initial reaction when she was asked about Donald Trump’s comments re building a wall on the border with Mexico or his proposed ban on Muslims entering the US:
    http://i.amz.mshcdn.com/oGb_EUZwr4JQJNsN6Pyz1M-yris=/fit-in/1200×9600/https%3A%2F%2Fblueprint-api-production.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fuploads%2Fcard%2Fimage%2F89466%2Fangelina.gif

Was AJP’s words & reactions could be described as slamming Trump?!!!!

On the contrary, AJP handled herself in a very civilized manner. It’s always been her style. Diplomatic & polite. No rudeness. No name calling. No cursing. No unnecessary words just to create controversy. She replied the question in a most appropriate or proper manner: “To me, America is built on people from around the world coming together for freedoms, especially freedom of religion. So it’s hard to hear this is coming from someone who is pressing to be an American president.”.

  • Susan

I don’t think she is shaking her head because she don’t want to answer the question. It might have been at the stupidity of Drumpf.

  • neer

She’s shaking her head at first NOT because she didn’t want to reply the said question BUT because out of disbelief.

  • lucy

Angie has never tried to be mean or disrespect anyone, but try telling that to the nut cases.

  • The truth

So Angie doesn’t bash trump at all… Now I did see HOhandler talk about moving to another country if he got elected. Good riddance… All of America will thank you for doing so.

Angie would never be caught saying meaningless statements like Handler says to the press.

  • busted

    She is an UGLY IDIOT..

I saw a picture if her with Lenny’s Yoga chick.. so we can the crumbs on the road..

Yes. I saw that pic too. Hoes of a feather, flock together. A bunch of barren bishes foaming at the mouth once again. God these hens just keep making themselves look bad, without our help.

Has anyone seen the complete video of AJs speech that also includes the Q&A afterwards with the audience? I can only find the speech.

Actually, I am also looking for a complete video during the Q& A.

While reading this article (see below), I cannot help BUT compare AJP’s comment with other celebs’ re Trump. It’s very different. One can really see she is really different and I very much agree, she made the perfect response among them.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/angelina-jolie-has-the-perfect-response-to-donald-trumps-anti-muslim-rhetoric_us_5739e0e5e4b060aa781ac125

Angelina Jolie Has The Perfect Response To Donald Trump’s Anti-Muslim Rhetoric

“It’s hard to hear this is coming from someone who is pressing to be an American president.”

    05/16/2016 12:25 pm ET

    Julia Brucculieri
    Entertainment Writer, The Huffington Post

Angelina Jolie has spoken out against Donald Trump’s controversial remarks against the Muslim community.

Jolie, who was speaking in London as a representative for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees on Monday, addressed the remarks, saying, “To me, America is built on people from around the world coming together for freedoms, especially freedom of religion. So it’s hard to hear this is coming from someone who is pressing to be an American president.”

Last December, the GOP presidential hopeful called for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States” after deadly terror attacks involving Islamic extremists in California and France. The real estate mogul also previously suggested closing certain mosques in the U.S. and claimed he saw footage of American Muslims cheering after the 9/11 attacks. No such footage has ever been found by any television network.

Trump’s call to ban Muslims from entering the country came as thousands of Syrian refugees were fleeing their war-torn country. Prior to Trump’s statements, President Barack Obama had instructed his administration to prepare for 10,000 refugees to enter the U.S.

Jolie also spoke about the refugee crisis at the BBC-hosted event, comparing the situation to World War II and saying it was “that once-in-a-generation moment when nations have to pull together.” The actress added that the efforts to help refugees are “drastically underfunded.”

Jolie is the latest star to speak out about Trump and his controversial campaign. George Clooney called the real estate mogul’s political success “crazy” and slammed his antics in an endorsement letter for Hillary Clinton. Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence said if Trump wins the presidency, it would be “the end of the world.“

Miley Cyrus also spoke out about the former “Apprentice” host, calling him “a f*cking nightmare.”

Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.

  • toastie postie

    You are welcome.

  • Passing Through

I just got home and haven’t had a chance to watch the video or read the articles…but…I think saying Angie “slammed” The Drumpf is a bit OTT. I saw that on news article earlier when I was at work. Does the media have to be go so overboard on these headlines? Angie’s name is going to get hits regardless of how they word it. I think it would be fairer to say she’s annoyed by Drumpf’s stupid idea. I keep waiting on someone to remind Drumpf that, given that he’s NOT Native American, if not for open immigration law – his relatives wouldn’t have been allowed in the country many moons ago.

  • busted

    Not to mention his wife..

PT I was just about to post asking where you and some of the other fans were. Yeah they are exaggerating. But when do they not regarding Angie. Here speech was wonderful and insightful.

  • toastie postie

Sites also had blasted and lashed out. That really burns my biscuits! How being dishearten came to be lashed out, slammed, blasted, I’ll never know. Guess they have their own agenda and know contention gets the hits.

  • toastie postie

Did I miss something in Angelina’s speech? Did she say anything about brexit? Daily Fail brought it up in their article, getting Brits riled up.

  • Passing Through

OK…I just watched Angie’s speech…she did a great job…and Arminka Helic looked like a proud mother at her kid’s first grade graduation. LOL!

Angie said a lot of harsh truths in that speech. Shame nothing will come of it because all the politicians will poo-poo the “actress dabbling in poltiics” and declare she should go do some “women’s work.”

  • toastie postie
  • Passing Through

I saw the part where she answered the question about Drumpft and I think somone needs to express a lot more anger and disgust for words like “slammed,” “blasted” and “lashed out” to be used. She very calmly noted that that we should expect more of someone who’s going to be the leader of the free world.

  • Passing Through

Busy day at work, but I read stuff off and on. Then I went to dinner with some friends. I had forgotten about Angie’s speech last Monday when we scheduled dinner. i almost skipped it…but…I sucked it up and went…

  • wika

Baroness as well. Didn’t spot Chloe during the speech but I saw the Baroness clapping and looking so proud of her. Lmao these two are like her parents.

  • toastie postie

Chloe was at the other end, just barely got a glimpse of her. Or am I confused? I thought the Baroness was the blonde. Am I mixed up – well more than usual that is?

  • wika

The baroness is the blonde LOL!

  • toastie postie

Well she was the one that I saw clapping and smiling and Ms. Dalton I got a glimpse when they stood up.

  • Passing Through

BTW – I was going to say before I left work tonight…this is really shallow but…Angie killed that dress! Fvck “skinny.” We should all be so lucky to look like that in a fairly simple knee-length, AGE & OCCASION APPROPRIATE, gray dress. Great draping on the back of the dress, too. I assume it was Ralph & Russo? It reminds me of some of their other dresses Angie’s worn. Including the white dress she wore to the London Unbroken premiere & the gray dress she wore to the Gala For Peace event in Berlin in 2012. If it’s not them, them, then whoever the designer is, I’m sure it’s sold out already…when people could have donated that $1,500 to the UNHCR.

Also – who did the gray dress she wore to Unbroken photo call in Sydney? Was the Ralph & Russo, too?

They just need to hire Angie for their spokeswoman and donate the money to charity. I found another one of their dresses that she would slay. It’s from their 2014 collection, but Angie should wear this red dress at some event and show all of those wannabes how it’s done -
