Rose McGowan's Former Manager Commits Suicide: Read Her Family's Statement

Rose McGowan's Former Manager Commits Suicide: Read Her Family's Statement

Studio executive and producer Jill Messick has died from suicide on Wednesday (February 7), her family tells The Hollywood Reporter.

The 50-year-old exec was also Rose McGowan‘s back in 1997, which is when the 44-year-old actress claims Harvey Weinstein raped her.

Jill‘s family tells THR that she suffered from years of depression and was “victimized” when she found herself in the middle of the Weinstein-McGowan allegations before saying Jill “became collateral damage in an already horrific story.”

“Over the past few months, many women have come out with allegations against Harvey Weinstein, including Rose McGowan, who has repeatedly spoken with the press, striking out against not only her alleged attacker, but a great many others,” Jill‘s family says. “One of them was Jill, who chose to remain silent in the face of Rose’s slanderous statements against her for fear of undermining the many individuals who came forward in truth. She opted not to add to the feeding frenzy, allowing her name and her reputation to be sullied despite having done nothing wrong. She never chose to be a public figure, that choice was taken away from her.”

Over the past couple of months, Rose claimed that Harvey raped her back in 1997 while they were at the Sundance Film Festival that year. Jill‘s name recently made headlines when Harvey’s attorney, Ben Brafman, released an email written by Jill in defense of the disgraced film producer.

“Seeing her name in headlines again and again, as part of one person’s attempt to gain more attention for her personal cause, along with Harvey’s desperate attempt to vindicate himself, was devastating for her,” her family continues. “It broke Jill, who was just starting to get her life back on track. What makes Rose’s inaccurate accusations and insinuations against Jill ironic was that she was the first person who stood up on Rose’s behalf, and alerted her bosses to the horrific experience which Rose suffered.”

Thats revebge suicide, nobody told her to stand for Weinstein.
I feel sorry for her loved ones. She opted out to hurt Rose Mcgowan who is clearly unstable. But for her family to say that she alerted peoole about what happened to Rose and for her to defend Weinstein is ILLOGICAL.

    Yes it is revenge suicde

  • wearing

I understand the family’s upset, but there’s no way they should be holding rose accountable for her suicide. if someone else came along and caused drama in her life, how would she have handled it? Probably still wouldve committed suicide.

If you had read and understoodthis articie you would have learnt that Rose’s case was final nail to the coffin.

Condolences to Jill’s family and friends. I hope that a little love and light will shine on her as it obviously had faded when she was here on Earth. So sad.

Rose needs to think more about how her words and actions affect others. She says that she’s the one that needs compassion but what about all the other people she’s throwing dirt at? Getting angry and lashing out isn’t helping you or this movement. All it’s doing is turning people against you. I certainly hope you can sleep well at night Rose, because after this I’m pretty I wouldn’t be able too if I was you.

  • Jaclyn Shortt

Ironic now Rose is destroying people just like Harvey. Not that Rose cares, Rose only exposed all this for the sake of her book sales and to make herself relevant.

  • BigJimSlade

Defend Weinstein for WHAT? Rose disrobing and getting in the hot tub with him?

It’s clear Rosie has had a questionable past and there are A LOT of holes in her story. Disgusting way to try to sell a book. She needs to get a therapist and go away.

This whole “movement” has done little more than expose a lot of gold diggers. We’re seeing it now; women will do ANYTHING to take a shortcut to success.

Whatever “victims” there have been, their stories are getting buried by these shameless women trying to deal with their regret for what they were willing to do years ago to succeed. She slept with Harvey. She needs to OWN it. As does that tattooed friend of hers.

  • wearing

What i’m saying is if someone else had caused her strife,
she probably would have still killed herself. it wasn’t rose herself, but one last stressful straw. there’s no reason to blame rose when really anything stressful would’ve done it for her.

  • wearing

I disagree with the gold diggers remark. While there are a small few like how you described, it’s definitely in the minority, not majority, as you’re suggesting. The movement has served to propel sexual harassment and gender inequality into the spotlight effectively.

Very sad… it’s BIZARRE- the Media, sidesteps investigative reporting, in favor of virtue signaling liberal gimmicks. These actresses- past their prime- fueled by a potent mix of regret & narcissism are allowed to level damaging accusations— WITHOUT a shread of evidence and no accountability. No doubt- Rose will make this about “what about #MEtoo?!!

are you implying that EVERYONE, male and female are making it up? 😒

  • Mary Burrell

    This is such a tragedy.

  • L.Whitney

what if they made it look like suicide to make Rose look bad bc shes spewing the truth- to make it look like Rose is doing more bad then good? who knows, this suicide is random and I never heard about her former manager… The times up movement that many actresses are jumping on is a movement created and supported by the very agency that allows all this dirty stuff to happen to actors/actresses .. sh**s twisted. C A A agency is behind the movement. rose mentions this. question everything you guys

However sorry for the death or sacrifice of her former manager.

  • Handsomedevil13

Are you implying that the family is lying about the suffering inflicted by the inflammatory & deceitful accusations?
It’s a very direct statement- The Media- by & large- has foresaken Investigative journalism- No questions- no responsibility- Let the damaging accusations fly…

  • wearing

while i somewhat agree, statistics show that false accusations only account for about 2-10% of all claims. I think the false or “reaching” ones have been called out swiftly (aziz ansari, ryan seacrest) so I don’t have a fear of mass false accusations.
I think the family is upset that their loved one killed herself and is lashing out. I think to be honest, if it wasn’t rose, it would’ve been some other event that would’ve caused her to commit suicide, because she’s been struggling with depression for a while.

Rose should be charged as a murderer and sent to prison

    what utter rubbish

  • Handsomedevil13

Lucky #metoo! I don’t have any fear either! I’ve never been more grateful to be homosexul..
oh? Are you saying the grieving family “lashed out?”- revealing their loved one- suffering from bi-polar- couldn’t handle being smeared as rape poacher and liar?..
Its nuts how soon we forget- Rolling Stone libelous “article” that affected an entire group of innocent young men and the female Dean..:and the list goes on.

Ι agree, it’s a really simplistic way of looking at mental illness. Jill was ill, and that was that. Her suicide wasn’t anyone’s fault. I don’t like her family’s stance here, their motive seems strange.

Yeah, that can’t happen unless Rose forced her hand or convinced her to do it. Jill was mentally ill. Anything could’ve provoked this. It’s not on Rose, it’s not on anyone.

How would anyone know that? Everyone tosses those stats around but the fact is, there is often ZERO evidence in rape cases. Lie detector tests are generally not used and not admissible in court. Either a victim can get a jury to believe them or not that is ultimately what many rapes boil down to and some people are simply more convincing than others. I am sure there are plenty of people sitting in Jail or on registries now who are innocent but they simply could not prove their innocence in a pseudo-system where we have been told to flip the basis of our legal system and the accused are guilty until they can prove they are innocent.

And Rose was the straw that broke this poor woman’s back. Everyone was trying to survive and protect themselves. It all could have been remedied a long time ago had Rose just come forward from the jump.

  • cutitout

Rose had a choice to go to the police or not. She made her choice and she has to live with it. If She had gone to the police at sundance, Harvey would have probably been arrested and at the very least, the allegations would have been public/exposed and many women could have been spared by being more informed and prepared to make better choices concerning Weinstein. Silence for WHATEVER reason is aiding and abetting. Rose knows this deep down and that is why she is always lashing out and dragging others into the blame. It sucks to be mad at yourself.

  • soyeahsowhat

suicide is not that simple and usually not just b/c of one reason. perhaps this woman “covered” for many others as well and that guilt was part of it. perhaps she had other family/mental issues. blaming Rose is unfair because there is way to truly know the reasons behind this woman’s actions

  • soyeahsowhat

agree 100%. so many people just don’t understand the severity of mental illness. this woman’s issues went far beyond Rose McGowan

  • lina759

Have you ever heard of bullying? Most people who are bullied don’t have depression but when they’re taunted and made to fell worthless. So much so that some people take their lives because of it.Rose may have not been directly involved.
But i’m sure she made her life a living hell.Look how she tried to ruin Ben,Meryl, Alyssa lives. She a megalomaniac! It’s everyone’s problem, only she tells the truth, she’s the architect of Weinstein’s demise. The only thing she’s the architect is ruining other women’s ability to be believed .
She’s making a mockery of the whole thing.

  • Maria M.
