Gary Oldman's Son Defends Him Against Ex-Wife's Allegations

Gulliver Oldman is coming to the defense of his father, Oscar winner Gary Oldman, in response to domestic abuse allegations made by the actor’s ex-wife.

The 20-year-old says that he is a supporter of the #MeToo movement and knows how it must look for him to come out with a statement to combat an allegation.

“However, I was there at the time of the ‘incident,’ so I’d like to make this radiantly clear: it didn’t happen. Anyone who says it did is lying,” he wrote.

Gulliver‘s mom Donya Fiorentino said in a resurfaced interview with the Daily Mail that her marriage to Oldman was a “nightmare.” She accused him of choking her and beating her with a phone in front of their sons in 2001.

At the Vanity Fair Oscars Party on Sunday night, Gary walked the red carpet with wife Gisele Schmidt and his sons Gulliver (left) and Charlie.

Gulliver Oldman’s Open Letter Defending Dad Gary Oldman

To whom it may concern,

My name is Gulliver Oldman, and I am the son of Gary Oldman, the actor.

It has been troubling and painful to see that these false allegations against my father being written about again, especially after this was all settled years ago.

There is good reason that these specific articles and accusations subsided years ago.

In my eyes it is disgusting that so called “journalists” have seen fit to spread and perpetuate the lie.

I have grown up in the world we are accustomed to now, where people are guilty until proven innocent. It’s a shame to see that “clickbait journalism” or judgement by headline, is designed to make one jump to conclusions without receiving the full range of fact that may be detailed in a piece, whether it be online or otherwise.

In the case of my father, there is only innocence. There never has been any guilt.

The reality is confused in excerpts, and published half truths from years ago.

Saddly, heartbreakingly, all of this is revisited in a very recent interview of my mother by a reporter at the Daily Mail —despite all of this having been thrown away and discredited as false years ago.

For me to write this letter is direct proof of this. Custody of children is not given to a wife beater, and under most circumstances, hardly ever a man. My having lived, full time with my father should be in itself, proof enough.

My Father is my one and true guiding light. My only hero. He is the man I aspire one day to become. If I could only become even half as great and half as pure. I was granted the good graces of his fatherhood as a child to be raised by him and only him. For that I am eternally grateful every hour of every day. I owe him the world and I owe him my life.

If it appears that publicly speaking ill of my mother [is] something I am either fond of, or accustomed to, that is not the case. She has been a sad and very troubled person most of her life. Yes, she brought me into this world. She didn’t however, teach me how to be a part of it.

This lie, all of her lies, things she has been perpetuating and living in as “her truth” —all of this has brought about so much pain and hardship for my father and for all of us, his family united.

My brother and I both have played the role of pawn on numerous occasions throughout our lives in a big game our mother has been desperately trying to play against our father. On all such occasions, the only retort my father has had is the truth. Always, and thankfully so, the truth is on his side.

Being a full supporter of this movement, I can see how coming out with a statement to combat an allegation must look. However, I was there at the time of the “incident,” so I’d like to make this radiantly clear: it didn’t happen. Anyone who says it did is lying.

To go deeper – of my own admission and my own decision, I chose to stop speaking with my mother seven years ago at the age of thirteen. I was old enough to see that holding on to a relationship with her would damage my future, so stepping away for some time would be the only thing I saw fit.

I want only to protect my father’s character, as a person and as an actor. I know he is a wonderfully kind man, gifted beyond belief, a man who wouldn’t trade anything for the love and happiness of his family. This torment should have ended 16 years ago. In such a momentous year for his career, my father should finally be able to enjoy himself. I hope that we can please make that a possibility.

The only way to achieve that is to stop repeating, stop sharing, and stop believing the lies.

Thank you,
Gulliver Oldman

She’s a charlatan taking advantage of the #metoo movement.

The charges were investigated and Oldman was cleared. He was later given full custody of his sons, who nowadays refuse to have anything to do with to her, that must mean something….

I don’t talk to my mother and she did this exact same thing. Said my father threw her to the ground when the true story was she was shoving him and shoving him and flung herself off of him to the ground. Then she said he attacked her with a hanger when he moved out of the house. Total lie. She couldn’t press charges cause the entire town, including the cops, knew she was a nut job. Unfortunately some women do lie about stuff like this to get back at their spouses for wanting to leave.

It’s so sad. What a horrible kind of woman she seems to be since her own children do not support her and have to call her out. Also what does this woman wanted to achieve with complaining about her ex’s win anyway? Nobody is going to take his Oscar back. He is already an old actor, not a beginner who has a full career ahead, so hardly it could have gigantic consequences for his career. Also I doubt such behavior from her side could reestablish her relationships with her kids.

  • Sansa Squad

He’s wrong about abusers not being granted custody of their kids (the data, if you look it up, is alarming) but whether his mother is truly as troubled as he says or is telling the truth and being silenced by her own children, I feel too deeply for her to cast judgment either way.

That said, Gary Oldman is no angel – the things he’s said in defense of Mel Gibson are absolutely abhorrent and his incessant railing against “political correctness” (read: not being allowed to call women “useless c*nts” without being criticized) are reason enough alone to detest him.

Fiorentino did great harm to herself and her family. Only it hurt ….

  • Joel P147

    she only made it worse!

  • Joel P147

He apologized for his interview, enough to remember this already, he talked about Hollywood hypocrisy and double standards. Mel Gibson was his friend, I think you would have also stood up for your friends. In addition, not all famous men receive custody, Mel Gibson has not received.

  • Sansa Squad

I would not stand up for my friends if they said and did the things Mel Gibson said and did – and I couldn’t consider anyone who thinks that way a friend of mine in the first place. The fact that Oldman could is itself a reflection of his character. Glad he at least apologized for what he said.

And I don’t mean just famous men, I mean all abusers. Men accused of domestic violence are more likely to seek custody of their children (makes sense I guess, because it’s a power thing) and more often than not -something like 70% of the time – they’re granted it. I’m not saying this is proof he’s an abuser and I’m actually inclined to believe his son, but his reasoning (“my dad COULDN’T have done this because he got custody and abusers never get custody”) is fundamentally flawed and based on misinformation.

  • Joel P147

The son was there and saw everything, just like her daughter.Study the story well, daughter Fiorentino asked the court to live with her father, because she was afraid of her mother.

  • Sansa Squad

Cool, then he should just say that. “My dad didn’t do this, I was there and she made it up” is a sufficient explanation. Claiming that “a judge wouldn’t give custody to him if he was an abuser” isn’t, because judges do (all the time) which was my whole point…

  • Joel P147

he simply pointed to the important fact that they were divorced by two judges, experts, social services and police. It is necessary sometimes to take all this away from extinction, and not to believe in words. Do not criticize a young man, it hurts him so much.
