Meghan Markle Takes Private Trip During Royal Tour in South Africa
Meghan Markle made a secret stop during her royal tour of South Africa.
The 38-year-old Duchess traveled to visit a memorial for University of Cape Town student Uyinene Mrwetyana, who was raped and murdered last month.
The 19-year-old student had been missing since late August after a trip to the post office and her death was confirmed in September.
“Having closely followed the tragic story, it was a personal gesture [Meghan] wanted to make,” her spokesperson said in a statement to People.
Meghan paid tribute by leaving a handwritten note which read, “Harry & Meghan 26th September 2019,” adding “We stand together in this situation” in the native language, Xhosa.
Uyinene‘s untimely death triggered national uproar regarding the safety of women in the country.
