Lizzo gets emotional while delivering an inspiring speech at the 2020 Grammy Awards.
The 31-year-old “Juice” singer – who is nominated for eight awards tonight – took the stage to accept her award for Best Pop Solo Performance for “Truth Hurts” on Sunday (January 26) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
“This is unexpected, really cool,” she said. “This whole week, I’ve been lost in my problems, stressed out, and then in an instant, all of that can go away and your priorities really shift. Today all of my little problems that I thought were big as the world were gone.”
“I realize that there are people are hurting right now,” she continued. “You guys create beautiful music, you guys create connectivity. We need to continue to reach out. This is the beginning of making music that moves people again, making music that liberates people.”
“If i hadn’t reached out, I wouldn’t have met my best friends,” Lizzo added. “I don’t know where I would be be right now, sleeping in my car. Thank you so much for lifting me up. Let’s continue to reach out, hold each other down, and lift each other up.”
