Oscars 2018: 341 Movies Will Compete for Best Picture Noms!

There are 341 films eligible to receive a nomination for Best Picture at the 2018 Academy Awards!

The Academy just announced the complete list of movies that have met the requirements to be considered for a nomination. These requirements are that a feature film open at a movie theater in Los Angeles County by December 31 and have a minimum run of seven consecutive days.

All of the films must be at least 40 minutes in length and be shown on 35mm film, 70mm film, or a digital format.

The number of nominees in the Best Picture category can range from 5 to 10 based on the preferential rankings of the voters. Nominations will be announced on the morning of Tuesday, January 23.

Oscars 2018 - 70 Songs Make Cut for Original Song Category

The nominations for the 2018 Academy Awards are still a month away, but the Best Original Song category has been narrowed down to 70 possible songs eligible to receive nominations.

Five songs will ultimately be selected for the nominations, which will be announced on the morning of Tuesday, January 23.

Among the songs that have made the cut are Taylor Swift and Zayn Malik‘s “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” from Fifty Shades Darker, Sara Bareilles‘ “If I Dare” from Battle of the Sexes, “Evermore” and “How Does a Moment Last Forever” from Beauty and the Beast, and “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman.

The songwriter who penned the song will be eligible for the award, not the entertainer who performed it.

Angelina Jolie's 'First They Killed My Father' Snubbed By Oscars

Angelina Jolie‘s critically acclaimed movie First They Killed My Father will not be nominated for an Oscar in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed the nine finalists for nominations in the category for the upcoming awards show.

First They Killed My Father, which was submitted as Cambodia’s entry, was left off the list, despite being considered a favorite and receiving a Golden Globe nomination this week.

Another favorite that was left off was France’s BPM.

Donald Sutherland to Receive the Academy's Honorary Oscar!

Donald Sutherland is set to receive an Honorary Oscar at the 2017 Governors Awards later this year!

The legendary 82-year-old actor is one of four people in the film industry who will be honored with Oscar statues at the event.

Writer-director Charles Burnett, cinematographer Owen Roizman, and director Agnes Varda are also set to be recognized on November 11.

“This year’s Governors Awards reflect the breadth of international, independent and mainstream filmmaking, and are tributes to four great artists whose work embodies the diversity of our shared humanity,” the Academy’s new president John Bailey said in a statement (via THR).

Oscars 2018: Jimmy Kimmel to Return as Host!

Jimmy Kimmel will return as the host of the 2018 Oscars for the second consecutive year!

The 49-year-old talk show host hosted the 2017 Oscars and will reunite with producers Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd for next year’s ceremony. The 2018 Oscars will take place on March 4.

“Hosting the Oscars was a highlight of my career and I am grateful to Cheryl, Dawn and the Academy for asking me to return to work with two of my favorite people, Mike De Luca and Jennifer Todd,” Jimmy said in a statement. “If you think we screwed up the ending this year, wait until you see what we have planned for the 90th anniversary show!”
