Abby Lee Miller's Reality Series 'Abby's Virtual Dance Off' Cancelled After Her Racist Comments Were Exposed

Abby Lee Miller‘s upcoming reality series with Lifetime has been cancelled in light of her past racist comments.

The series was a 12-episode pandemic-friendly Dance Moms spin-off where the professional choreographer would feature dancers from around the country who submitted videos of their best moves, Entertainment Weekly says.

Abby’s Virtual Dance Off was set to premiere this summer, however, her past comments have sealed the show’s fate. In addition, the network will not be bringing Abby back if Dance Moms is renewed for a ninth season.

If you didn’t see, Abby apologized for her comments after being called out by Adriana Smith and her daughter, Kamryn, who starred on Dance Moms in season 8.

Adriana called Abby out and held her accountable for the racially insensitive things she said to her and Kamryn during the show.

“To Kamryn, Adriana, and anyone else I’ve hurt, I am truly sorry. I realize that racism can not just come from hate, but also from ignorance,” Abby wrote in her apology posted to Instagram. “No matter the cause, it is harmful, and it is my fault.”

Abby Lee Miller Apologizes After Being Called 'Racist' by Former 'Dance Moms' Star

Abby Lee Miller is taking responsibility for her past racially insensitive remarks.

Earlier this week, former Dance Moms star Adriana Smith accused the 53-year-old choreographer of being a “racist.”

Adriana, whose daughter Kamryn performed in an episode of season eight in hopes of joining the team, opened up about racially insensitive remarks made by Abby.

“I recently posted on my FB that racism is not something we can disagree on and still be friends, which in turn is why we are not friends,” Adriana wrote on Instagram. “A statement from her that sticks in my mind to this day during my time on DMS8 is, ‘I know you grew up in the HOOD with only a box of 8 crayons, but I grew up in the country club with a box of 64 — don’t be stupid.’ This my friends is not something or a statement that can be googled. Ask yourself what does that mean? This to me shows that you think you are better than me and in higher rank and all together superior to ME!”

Now, Abby posted a statement apologizing for her past remarks.

“I genuinely understand and deeply regret how my words have effected [sic] and hurt those around me in the past, particularly those in the Black community,” Abby wrote on Instagram. “To Kamryn, Adriana, and anyone else I’ve hurt, I am truly sorry. I realize that racism can not just come from hate, but also from ignorance. No matter the cause, it is harmful, and it is my fault. While I cannot change the past or remove the harm I’ve done, I promise to educate myself, learn, grow, and do better. While I hope to one day earn your forgiveness, I recognize that words alone are not enough. I understand it takes time and genuine change.”

The move should’ve happened on the bridge like usual and not in front of a hundred ppl waiting to board, I shouldn’t have had to ask for someone to call the paramedics and maybe the @americanair Gate Mgr should’ve at the very least asked if I was ok?”

Abby Lee Miller Reveals She's Cancer-Free: 'I Feel Like I Have More to Do'

Abby Lee Miller is cancer-free!

The 52-year-old Dance Moms star opened up about her cancer battle and her plans for the future in a new interview with People, a year after being diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma.

“The cancer is completely gone,” Abby said. “I’m more than grateful. I’m thankful. I was always grateful but I think I must say ‘Thank you’ a hundred times a day because I have to rely on strangers; someone to open the door, someone to get the hanger off the rack at the department store, someone to pick up my phone if I drop it. How am I supposed to get it? I’m very grateful and thankful to strangers that have been so kind.”

“I pushed through because I feel like I have more to do,” she continued. “I want to be an executive producer. I have three other shows and a cartoon that I’ve created. I want to do what I really do — I create. I can make something magical and wonderful out of nothing. I do it every week.”

“I have goals,” she added. “I have dreams and I want to see them come to fruition. I want to retire and want to be able to live out my days financially secure. That’s what everyone wants.”

“If I can move, I can stand,” she shared. “I’m supposed to stand three times a day for twenty minutes. I can take a right step because I can put my weight on my left knee then when I take a left step my right leg just crumbles because I need a knee replacement.”
