The Bachelorette's Becca Kufrin Reacts to Garrett's Apology Statement

The Bachelorette‘s Becca Kufrin is speaking all about Garrett Yrigoyen‘s controversial social media activity.

Becca was asked by THR, “When you found out about his social media behavior, what was your reaction?”

She responded, “All I can ask is that people watch the season and get to know not only me for who I am, but get to know these guys as well. I think that everyone is different. I came into this knowing I was going to meet a handful of men who came from different backgrounds and different walks of life, and I wanted to just be open to everyone, and I hope that the viewers can do the exact same thing.”

Becca was also asked about Garrett‘s apology statement and how she felt about it.

“If that’s what he felt like he needed to do, then that’s what he needed to do. For me, these past weeks, I’ve just really been focused on my journey and trying to promote the show. It’s still just the very beginning, and I’m just excited for people to see the rest of it. Again, I just want everyone to stay open to me and to the 28 guys who came on it with me,” she said.

The Bachelorette's Garrett Yrigoyen Apologizes for 'Hurtful & Offensive' Social Media History

The Bachelorette contestant Garrett Yrigoyen is addressing the controversy surrounding his social media history.

After it was revealed earlier this week that the 29-year-old contestant was found to be liking tweets mocking undocumented immigrants, a student from Parkland, trans people, Garrett is apologizing for the “hurtful and offensive” content.

“I am sorry to those who I offended, and I also take full responsibility for my ‘likes’ on Instagram that were hurtful and offensive,” Garrett wrote on his new Instagram account. He had deleted his former account after the reports. “I decided to take it down and start fresh because I have learned an extremely valuable lesson and am taking steps to grow, become more educated, and be a better version of myself.”

This season’s Bachelorette Becca Kufrin addressed the controversy saying “everyone is entitled to their own opinions.”

“I am not the negative labels people are associating me with,” Garrett continued. “I do not want my social media to define who I am, and I will take better care moving forward to support all walks of life.”

The Bachelorette's Becca Kufrin Breaks Silence on Garrett's Social Media Controversy

Becca Kufrin has broken her silence on Bachelorette contestant Garrett Yrigoyen and the discovery of his social media activity, liking transphobic, anti-immigrant, and sexist posts.

“I’ve heard a little bit about it these past couple days. I’ve just been so busy traveling around the country with press that I haven’t really been able to read too much up on it, but everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and at the end of the day I wanted to go on this journey to open up myself and have people see my love story unfold and I would hope that they would stay open and respect me but also stay open and respect these 28 guys that went along on the journey with me,” Becca told E! News.

She also spoke about getting to know the guys without using social media. “It’s different, but it’s nice in a way, because I was truly getting to know these guys for them, and hav[ing] conversations face to face with them about things that were important to me. So I feel like I got a much better picture of who these 28 guys were, as opposed to just looking on their social media and trying to make a decision of who they were by not talking to them,” she added.

Becca concluded, “People form their own opinions, but at the end of the day, I know who I am and my friends and family know the type of person who i am, and I can only hope the guys feel that same way. It’s going to be tough. I think social media is a huge presence in our lives these days. There’s no getting around that fact. It’s difficult for people to say certain things about any of these guys, and so I would really just hope that they watch the entire journey and get to know them for who they really are.”

Becca gave Garrett the first impression rose on the premiere of the new season.
