The film was first announced in June of 2008 as a direct sequel to 2004′s Dawn of the Dead at the time, and faced over a decade of waiting in development limbo. It is still unclear whether the film is intended to be a direct sequel.
The Simon McQuoid-directed New Line Cinema movie, inspired by the smash hit video game franchise, is hitting theaters nationwide on April 16, and will be available in the U.S. on HBO Max for 31 days from theatrical release.
Here’s a plot summary: “MMA fighter Cole Young, accustomed to taking a beating for money, is unaware of his heritage—or why Outworld’s Emperor Shang Tsung has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down. Fearing for his family’s safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade at the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with. Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden, an Elder God and the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao and rogue mercenary Kano, as he prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe. But will Cole be pushed hard enough to unlock his arcana—the immense power from within his soul—in time to save not only his family, but to stop Outworld once and for all?”
Johnny Depp got playful on the red carpet by sticking out his tongue at the premiere of Minimata during the 2020 Berlin International Film Festival at Friedrichstadt-Palast on Friday night (February 21) in Germany.
The 56-year-old actor kept it cool and casual while stepping out for the photo call and press conference for his film Minamata held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel on Friday (February 21) in Berlin, Germany.
In Minamata, Johnny plays celebrated war photographer W. Eugene Smith who helped bring to public attention a mercy poisoning in Japan carried out over a 34-year-period.
“Reading the story and learning the history of what happened in Minamata, the fact that it even happened at all, was very shocking,” Johnny said at the Berlin Film Festival (via THR). “The fact it continues is even more shocking. Just as a reader, as someone who is interested, I believed it was a story that needed to be told.”
Johnny added that he felt it was important to “harness the power of the media, or cinema” and use it to “open up people’s eyes to something that happened and happens to this day.” He also noted that “films like this don’t get made every day.”
Laura Linney flashes a big smile on the red carpet while attending the premiere of her latest film Mr. Holmes held at the Museum of Modern Art on Monday (July 13) in New York City.
‘Holmes is a bit superhuman. He’s the best. It’s a very good name, Sherlock,” Ian said about playing the lead role (via USA Today). “It doesn’t take much to imagine being him. There was no acting problem. So I suppose I was very concerned to get the age right.”
“Ian has the body of a 16-year-old. He loves his life. He’s involved politically and artistically in the world. He’s connected,” Laura added. “There’s great circulation in his life. It shows in him physically. You always wonder when someone is playing someone much older, how is that going to come together? In this case, it’s a great actor combined with a great makeup artist. It was a beautiful balance.”
