Here's How 'Riverdale' Will Honor Luke Perry After Season 3 Finale

NOTE: THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS. DO NOT KEEP READING IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!

Season 3 of Riverdale came to a shocking close on Wednesday evening (May 15). The episode, called “Survive the Night,” featured Archie (KJ Apa), Betty (Lili Reinhart), Jughead (Cole Sprouse) and Veronica (Camilla Mendes) in a fight for their lives.

The late Luke Perry‘s character, Fred Andrews, remained out of town for the episode.

The show’s creator, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, discussed his character’s fate in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“When Luke passed, we had already broken and written a lot of the end of the season, and we really wanted to…I mean, it was just devastating. And we wanted to honor Luke, and figure out the best way to handle the character of Fred Andrews in the show, so we sort of said, you know what? Let’s not squeeze, let’s not rush to squeeze something into the finale, or into the last couple of episodes, let’s really think about it, and let’s tell that story at the beginning of season four,” he explained.

Luke was one of the hearts of the show — Luke and KJ, their relationship, and as crazy as things got, we always turned back to them. That was so wonderful to have, and so that was part of our thinking too. We wanted to take the time to understand how the show will change [without Fred], and how we could best address that.”

When asked for confirmation if that would happen in Season 4, he confirmed: “Yes, absolutely.”

Luke Perry's Daughter Reveals He Was Buried in Eco-Friendly Mushroom Suit

Luke Perry‘s daughter is opening up about his final wishes.

Sophie Perry took to Instagram on Friday (May 3) to reveal that her dad was buried in a biodegradable mushroom suit.

“In December I went to San Francisco with two of my best friends. One of them, had never never been to California, so we went to show him the Redwoods. I took this picture while we were there, because i thought, ‘damn, those mushrooms are beautiful’,” the 18-year-old explained.

Sophie added: “Now, mushrooms hold an entirely new meaning for me. Any explanation i give will not do justice to the genius that is the mushroom burial suit, but it is essentially an eco friendly burial option via mushrooms.”

According to Coeio.com – the company that designs the mushroom suits – each suit costs about $1,500 and includes a button-up fabric with a hood and face cover. The suit works to speed up the decomposition process and has built-in mushrooms and other microorganisms that work together to do this, as well as neutralize toxins found in the body and transfer nutrients to plant life.

“My dad discovered it, and was more excited by this than I have ever seen him. He was buried in this suit, one of his final wishes,” Sophie concluded. “They are truly a beautiful thing for this beautiful planet, and I want to share it with all of you.”

Luke passed away in March at the young age of 52 after suffering from a stroke.
