Matthew McConaughey Wishes the Washington Redskins Wouldn't Change Their Name

Matthew McConaughey flashes his winning smile on the cover of GQ magazine’s November 2014 issue.

Here’s what the 44-year-old Interstellar actor had to share with the mag:

On the Washington Redskins name: “What interests me is how quickly it got pushed into the social consciousness. We were all fine with it since the 1930s, and all of a sudden we go, ‘No, gotta change it’? It seems like when the first levee breaks, everybody gets on board. I love the emblem. I dig it. It gives me a little fire and some oomph. But now that it’s in the court of public opinion, it’s going to change. I wish it wouldn’t, but it will.”

On marrying his longtime love Camilla Alves: “I had to get to the point where I saw it as more than just the thing to do. I wanted to really want to. You know, I didn’t want it to be a destination; the fun is that we’re on the adventure together. And look, some of it had to do with her putting it on me. It took her going, ‘C’mon, Big Boy, Mr. Easygoing-We’ll- Get-to-It-When-We-Get-to-It. Either sh*t or get off the pot.’”

On whether he’s still friends with Lance Armstrong: “I like people who are great at what they do. At that time, we were two single men who were doing good in their careers and came from different places. To put my own emotions in front of this and go ‘You didn’t tell me the truth’ would be arrogant. And you know what? This is a friend. Who I know to be a good man. If there was an apology, it was said and I heard it.”

Interstellar's Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, & Anne Hathaway Preview Their Upcoming Flick in 'EW'

Interstellar‘s Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, and Anne Hathaway take the cover of Entertainment Weekly‘s latest issue to give us a look at the big upcoming film.

“This is the first film I have made where the actual experience of the film is paramount to the audience,” the film’s director Christopher Nolan told the mag. “You would think that’s the case with Batman movies but it’s not; they’re more dependent on the reaction of characters on screen. Interstellar is different. It harkens back to the direct experience films of 2001, where you’re not just experiencing it through the characters, you are lost in it.”

“The film is about human nature, what it means to be human. It sounds like a very grand statement, but I don’t intend it to be. I mean it in the way, say, Treasure of the Sierra Madre is about dramatizing ideas of human nature,” Christopher added.

“Last night I was thinking about what I do, thinking about what you all do, and I was asking myself this question, why do I do what I do? Why am I an actor? And I was gonna ask you all, why do you play football?” the 44-year-old actor said to the players. “Feels good going out on Saturdays when it’s the big show, right? Hell yeah it does.
