Also seen practicing that day was Roger Federer, who sweated up a storm and walked away from his session with a drenched t-shirt.

The win gave Rafael his second championship at the U.S. Open, which he won in 2010, where he also competed with Novak in the final. Congrats Rafael!

“It’s always the biggest challenge that you can have in our sport now,” Novak recently shared before the match about Rafael. “I mean, he’s the ultimate competitor out there. He’s fighting for every ball and he’s playing probably the best tennis that he ever played on hard courts.”

With this win, Rafael is undefeated in 16 matches on the hard court surface.

“It’s difficult to analyze now,” Nadal said about playing the best hard-court tennis of his career. “I am playing well. Happy the way I was playing. I don’t know if it was the best or not, but it was very good because I was able to win.”

Rafael Nadal is all smiles while arriving to LaGuardia Airport on Sunday evening (August 18) in New York City.

The 27-year-old Spanish tennis player was in Ohio over the weekend, where he won the Western & Southern Open‘s men’s tournament.

After the big win, Rafael was presented with a bottle of Moet & Chandon and his trophy at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.

“Very happy for the victory. Now go to the US Open. Thanks for your support!” Rafa wrote on his Facebook page. The U.S. Open tournament will be starting August 26.
