Shannen Doherty On 'Riverdale' Season 4 Luke Perry Tribute: 'I Bawled My Eyes Out'

Shannen Doherty keeps it cool and casual while making her way inside the Good Morning America studios on Monday morning (August 5) in New York City.

During her interview, the 48-year-old actress, who co-starred with Luke Perry on Beverly Hills, 90210, opened up about guest starring in the CW’s season 4 premiere of Riverdale.

“I can tell you that I read the script and I bawled my eyes out,” Shannen revealed. “I’m so beyond honored that they asked me to do this and Luke had been wanting me to join Riverdale for a really long time. It’s a beautiful episode that is nothing but a tribute to his character and to Luke himself.”

Shannen Doherty also talked about her return on the teen drama after the death of Luke Perry: “I just felt like we created so much together on 90210, our characters and our relationship, that love between the two of us…it felt like the right thing to go back and do a show that I know meant so much to him,” she said. “It was surreal, all of us together again and sort of realizing that you’re missing a key component, you’re missing some heart. Luke was all heart and all humility and beauty and grace and humor and just grounding, earthy human being. So, he was missed sorely for sure.”

That same morning, Shannen‘s co-stars Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling were spotted arriving at the Today show studios.

BH 90210 will premiere on Wednesday, August 7 at 9pm ET on Fox!

Shannen Doherty Reveals How Luke Perry Encouraged Her to Join 'BH90210'

Shannen Doherty had a special reason she decided to sign on for BH90210.

The 48-year-old actress recently revealed that she joined the Beverly Hills 90292 reunion series to honor the late Luke Perry.

“I wasn’t attached [before Luke’s death]…and it wasn’t long after he passed that I finally was like, ‘OK, yes,’” Shannen told ET.

She continued, “For me, I felt like it was honoring him and his memory and what he meant to the audience and the fans and to all of us. As his on-set family, I felt like it was an important time for all of us to come together to honor him.”

Shannen added that the series will definitely address Luke‘s absence, saying, “The first episode very much deals with it. Luke was such a sort of quiet, subtle, yet dynamic human being that he had a very strong and lasting impact on people. So, naturally, we would have to deal with it.”

Shannen is also set to honor Luke in upcoming episodes of Riverdale. Get the details.

Shannen Doherty Will Appear on 'Riverdale' Season 4 for Luke Perry Tribute

Shannen Doherty is paying tribute to her late friend Luke Perry.

The 48-year-old actress, who co-starred with Luke on Beverly Hills, 90210, will guest star in the CW’s Season 4 premiere of Riverdale, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed on Sunday (July 21) at 2019 Comic-Con in San Diego, Calif.

The episode will run on October 9, and will be called “In Memorium.” It will reflect on Luke‘s legacy, including his character Fred Andrews on the show.

He also revealed that Luke had been advocating for Shannen to appear on the show “since season one. They were such good friends, and when we were putting together this tribute episode, we wanted to make it as special as possible, and so we asked Shannen to do a pivotal, super-emotional role. She read the script and immediately said yes. It’s very impactful.”

Shannen is also set to star in the upcoming reboot, 90210. Find out more.

Shannen Doherty Pays Tribute to Luke Perry: 'I Will Miss Him Everyday'

Shannen Doherty is remembering her life long friend Luke Perry after his death.

The 47-year-old actress shared a statement with People after it was announced that her Beverly Hills, 90210 co-star had passed away on Monday (March 4) after suffering a massive stroke.

“I am in shock. Heartbroken. Devastated by the loss of my friend. I have so many memories with Luke that make me smile and that are forever imprinted on my heart and mind,” Shannen started.

Despite drifting apart after the two both left the show, Shannen revealed that they reconnected after she went public with her breast cancer diagnosis in 2015.

“Luke was a smart, quiet, humble and complex man with a heart of gold and never-ending well of integrity and love,” Shannen continued. “Luke reached out to me during my cancer journey and we picked right back up, albeit older and wiser, but that connection remained in tact.”

Shannen continued: “There is a special kind of love one has for each other when you are experiencing the journey we did on 90210 and of course life in general. Luke and I were working on show ideas for us. We wanted to work with each other again and create something special and meaningful for our fans at this stage in our lives. I will miss him everyday. Every minute. Every second.

“Luke loved his family. He raved about his kids and how proud he was of them. He showed me videos of the often,” Shannen shared. “They were his heart and for him, his biggest accomplishment.”

Shannen concluded by talking about the last time she saw Luke.

“A couple of weeks ago in February, Luke and I met up for lunch. He chose the restaurant based on who would allow his dog,” Shannen shared. “I walked in and there he was, smiling, with his dog Penny and her bed under the booth, happy as can be. I will never forget — and will miss — Luke looking at me with that smile of his saying … Shan.”
